Memories

Top: "M. Norman-Furniture & Undertaking":  Over the years, the building has housed several businesses.  It survived the flood of 1997 and still exists at 3rd St. N. in downtown Grand Forks, ND. Notice the white hearses. When motorized hearses came into use, Mose Norman chose white to be the color of his funeral cars. Today, we use white funeral coaches and limousines for funeral services. (circa.1908)

Lower: Ole Olson Haugen, a farmer, was 73 when he died, Nov. 2, 1913. The funeral took place at his home, 1 1/2 miles north of the one-room Rye School of Rye Township, ND 10 miles northwest of Grand Forks. The horse drawn hearse, from Norman Funeral Home of Grand Forks, brought the casket to Middlegrove Cemetery. "The Grand Forks Herald",(circa. Nov. 5,1913)
