Alan F. Wentz, age 70 of Grand Forks, ND, died on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND.

Alan Floyd Wentz, son of Floyd and Margie (Munson/Nelson) Wentz, was born on September 4, 1953 in Grand Forks, ND. He was raised and educated in East Grand Forks, MN, graduating from EGF Central high school in 1972. On September 11, 1975 he entered the US Army. Alan was stationed in Germany for 2 ½ years where among many things, he worked on tanks, visited the Berlin Wall, and continued to grow his admiration for his German heritage. He returned to the US and on September 12, 1978 he was honorably discharged. Alan then joined the Army National Guard on February 2, 1979. While serving, Alan worked to obtain his Small Engine and Gas and Diesel Mechanic certification.

On July 31, 1982 he was married to Cynthia Johnson in East Grand Forks, MN where they started their family. Alan began working for American Crystal Sugar in East Grand Forks. In 1986 they moved to Grand Forks and continued to expand their family. Alan was known for his hard work ethic and for over 20 years worked at American Crystal Sugar before leaving in mid-2011, where he later retired. In 2013 he retired from the National Guard. He continued to make Grand Forks his home.

He was a numismatist (coin collector) and would also collect World War II memorabilia. Alan loved to build military models as well as wooden model ships and puzzles. By far Alan's greatest joy was spending time with his children, grandchildren, and his cats any time he could. Alan would build doll houses, model trains, or Lego sets that he enjoyed with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Cynthia; sons, Corey Wentz, Justin (Megan) Wentz, Kirk (Page) Wentz, and Luke (Alyssa) Wentz; and grandchildren Luca, Ozzy, Naomi, Jonah, Leah, Mason, Paisley, Otto, Theodore, Elliana, Ember, and Elizabeth, and brothers, Greg (Cindy), Charles/Jim, and Robert.

Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Margie Wentz.
