Alicia Osorno, 92, of Grand Forks, ND passed away Thursday, August 15, 2019 in Valley Eldercare Center in Grand Forks.

Alicia was born on January 10, 1927 in San Marcos, Nicaragua the daughter of Epifania De Los Reyes Naverro and Gustavo Alejandro Osorno. She was hired for a position on the staff of the United States Embassy at Managua, Nicaragua and served there during the term of Ambassador Thomas E. Whelan of St. Thomas, ND. Upon the completion of Ambassador Whelan's term, Alicia returned with the Ambassador and Mrs. Whelan to their home in St. Thomas. She became a citizen of the United States of America. She remained a member of the Whelan households in St. Thomas and Grand Forks during their lifetime and she remained in Grand Forks until her death.

She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, where she generously contributed her time and talent. She was also a member of the Grand Forks County Historical Craft Guild, Welcome Wagon Homemakers, St. Anne's Guest Home Auxiliary, Holy Family Altar Society and St. Michael's Hospital Auxiliary.

She is survived by her brothers, Julio Alberto Osorno and Pablo Osorno as well as various nieces and nephews living in Nicaragua, Florida and California.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 20, 2019 in the Historic Norman Funeral Home Chapel.
Visitation: One hour prior to the liturgy in the funeral home on Tuesday.
Burial: St. Thomas Catholic Calvary Cemetery, St. Thomas, ND.
