Bernice Ann Vanyo , 93, of Grand Forks, ND passed away Saturday, May 17, 2025, in her home.

Bernice was born on February 17, 1932, on the family homestead near Ardoch, ND; the daughter of Harry, Sr. and Josephine (Nice) Slominski. She was raised in a loving family that included a multitude of brothers and sisters.

Bernice met Stephen J. Vanyo during a local dance. They married on November 7, 1955, at the Stanislaus Catholic Church in Warsaw, ND. This union produced three children: Timothy, Wayne, and Darcy.

She worked at the Spackenkill School District in Poughkeepsie, NY in food service. She was later hired to work for IBM, also in food service. Bernice and Stephen went back to Grand Forks, and they retired from their respective jobs.

Bernice was a member and volunteer at the Polish American Citizens Club in Poughkeepsie, NY. Locally, she was a member and volunteer to multiple organizations.

She loved to travel and dance the night away (with her husband) to any and all polka festivals they were able to attend.

Bernice is survived by her son Timothy, daughter Darcy, brother Julian, and sister Joanna.

She was preceded in death by her husband Stephen, son Wayne, and granddaughter Angela Theodoseau.

In lieu of flowers , the family requests that donations be made to Arts for Vets (215 N 3rd St, Suite100, Grand Forks, ND 58203) or the Mountainbrooke Recovery Center (112 N 3rd St, Grand Forks, ND 58203) .

Mass of Christian Burial: 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 24, 2025, in Holy Family Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.
Visitation: One hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Saturday.
Interment: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery, Tabor, MN.
