Carol Werner Steinke , age 72 of Grand Forks, passed away unexpectedly on March 2nd, 2023 at Altru Hospital.

Carol was born June 3rd 1950, the oldest daughter to Jack and Lorraine Werner and grew up in Watkins MN.   She graduated from St. Boniface High School in Cold Spring, MN in 1968 and from St. Cloud State University in 1972 with a degree in Physical Education. She moved to Grand Forks in 1976 and began her career at Agassiz Enterprises where she worked for 43 years, managing staff and coordinating activities for people with disabilities.  She truly enjoyed her profession.

Carol also enjoyed golfing and was a league bowler since she moved to the area, including bowling in city, state, and national bowling tournaments where she made many friends.  She also enjoyed playing cards for 14 hour marathons with her good friends Sue and Paulette.  Carol loved spending time with family.  She would often tell stories of growing up with her two close sisters, Mary and Nancy.  She was also proud to be a grandmother to Jack(11) and Lila(5).  Much of her retirement included spending time with them.  Grandma Carol and Lila would bake, color, play games and do regular manicures and pedicures together.  Grandma and Jack would tinker with old toys of Josh's, play games, and she loved treating him to DQ, root beer floats, L & M Meat's summer sausage, and her famous meatloaf.   Carol loved the holidays, especially Halloween when she would make up new costumes and decorate her garage for the neighborhood kids to come trick or treat.

Carol is survived by her son, Josh, his wife, Lindsey, and their two children Jack and Lila; sisters: Mary (Paul) Lenfestey and Nancy (Marv) Karth; nieces: Tracy Karth and Michelle (Jon) Vaughn. She was preceded in death by her parents.

She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

But fear not, dear friends, because Carol would never want us to be sad. She'd want us to raise a glass (or two, or three...) in her honor and have a jolly good time. So, let's come together and give Carol the send-off she deserves - with lots of smiles, hugs, and maybe even a few embarrassing stories (we promise not to tell anyone else). See you on May 20th - let's make it a party Carol would be proud of!
