Chalyse Koshikawa, 33, of Grand Forks, ND, passed peacefully from the effects of her illness on Wednesday, November 6, 2019.

Chalyse Marie Wynne was born on May 3, 1986, in Grand Forks to Julie (Spivack) and Terry Wynne. She attended school in Grand Forks and graduated from Grand Forks Central in 2004. She was very active in school activities including choir, band, cheerleading, tennis, and wrestling and began her foodservice career at Happy Joes Pizza as "Happy" the Dalmatian. Chalyse continued schooling and finished her education, graduating from the University of North Dakota with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Recreational and Leisure Activities. She competed in tennis, continued singing with the UND choir, and found her "family" of sisters at the Pi Beta Phi sorority house. It was in her final years at UND where an internship took her to California, that she developed her love for event planning and the desire of healthy eating.

Chalyse's adventurous spirit spurred her lust with healthy diets and eventually introduced her to her future husband, Satoshi Koshikawa. When Chalyse returned to Grand Forks, Satoshi, a life-long California resident, ventured with her to North Dakota. They were united in a beautiful wedding on December 13, 2014. Their first son, Orion, arrived on November 13, 2015, and the family was on its way. In their young marriage, Chalyse experienced the opening of the Drunken Noodle, managed the Texas Roadhouse, and waitressed at many restaurants in the city, specifically Downtown's Brick and Barley, Rhombus Pizza, and Shing Ya. Satoshi and Chalyse opened Froot & Erb, a natural fruit and vegetable shop within Columbia Mall, bringing what many called the best Japanese curry to Grand Forks ever. Chalyse began her final career at Natural Grocer's as the produce manager where she stayed until her 2nd son, Aizen, was born on October 2, 2018. Unfortunately, Chalyse was later diagnosed with ALS and began to suffer the effects of the disease. In the months that followed, the debilitating effects of the disease overwhelmed her, and Chalyse was reliant upon assistance for everyday deeds. Volunteers and organizations were incredible in their efforts to regain her health, and she showed constantly that her children were her pride as she maintained her motherly watch. The outpouring of support from the community never waivered during her battles and this support was felt by all. Sadly, Chalyse passed peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of November 6, 2019.

Chalyse is survived by her loving husband, Satoshi, and their two beautiful sons, Orion (4) and Aizen (1); parents Julie Spivack-Wynne and Terry Wynne; siblings Andrew, Jantzen, and Jhazlyn; maternal grandfather Myron Spivack; numerous aunts, uncles: a niece, cousins and a large extended family.

She was preceded in death by her grand-parents John and Dorothy Wynne and Rose Spivack, great grand-parents, John and Emma Dvorak, Laverne Oppeboen and family friend, Theresa Ruddy.
Chalyse's family deeply appreciates all the support that has aided them in their journey. More than anything, your attendance of her farewell celebration will lift the spirits of all those affected. However, the devastating effects of this disease have placed her family in financial need.

In lieu of flowers and if your hearts are so willing, please direct any and all memorials to the family of Chalyse Koshikawa to aid in their continued healing for this beautiful family.

Funeral Service: 4:00 p.m. Monday, November 11, 2019 in the Historic Norman Funeral Home Chapel.
Visitation: 2:00 to 4:00 pm. in the funeral home on Monday.
A gathering to celebrate Chalyse's life will follow the memorial service beginning at 5:30 p.m. The Brick and Barley, 9 North 3rd Street, Grand Forks, ND.
