Clifford "Butch" Lee Nystrom, 76, from Grand Forks, ND, passed away Saturday July 26, 2025, peacefully at the Altru hospital surrounded by his family.  Butch was born October 27, 1948 in Grand Forks, ND the son of Clifford Odin and Etta Smiles Nystrom.  Butch moved to Bemidji, MN with his parents.  He graduated from Bemidji High School and played on the first hockey team Bemidji organized.

Butch met the love of his life, Phyllis Meyer while he was working in Southern Indiana.  Butch and Phyllis got married in East Grand Forks, MN in 1969.  From this marriage they shared one son, Clifford Lee Nystrom II.

Butch attended Wahpeton State School of Science where he earned an associate's degree.  Upon finishing his associate's degree, Butch went on to work for Minnkota Power as an Energy Control Systems Operator where he later retired after 40 plus years of service.

Throughout Butch's life he enjoyed hunting, fishing, dinosaur digging, watching sports, and traveling the world with his wife, Phyllis. Together they traveled all around North America with many stops at many states, provinces in Canada, and cities in Mexico.  This did not stop Butch and Phyllis from traveling as they went to many vacations around world and met many travel friends along the way.  Another highlight of Butch's life was being a grandfather and visiting with his grandchildren and watching their activities live or from a far on web streams.

Butch was proceeded in death by his parents Clifford Odin Nystrom, Etta Smiles (Johnson) Nystrom, infant brother David Nystrom. Uncle Harvey Nystrom from Minneapolis. Mother-in-Law Claudina Mary Meyer, father-in-law Edward John Meyer, sisters in law Ester Ellingsworth, Rita Gehlhausen, Elise Phieler, Beatrice Ellingsworth, Jannie Schnieders, and Stella Taber. Brothers in law Clarence Meyer and Denis Meyer. Also, nephew in law, Charlie Ellingsworth.

Butch is survived by his wife of 56 years Phyllis Nystrom, son Clifford Lee Nystrom II (Lindsay Carlson), and 3 grandchildren from Cliff's previous marriage to Kristy Nystrom, Corbin Scott Nystrom (14), Shep Odin-Torger Nystrom (12), and Kolbie Nell Nystrom (9).  Sister-in-Law Carla (Meyer) Neukam, Aunt Rita Nystrom and many nieces and nephews.

Service for Butch will take place and Norman Funeral Home in Grand Forks on Friday August 1st, 2025. Visitation will be from 4pm to 5pm, with a service to follow at beginning at 5pm at Norman Funeral Home followed by refreshments and food at Norman Funeral Home.
