Dale Robert Bergum , 57, of Grand Forks, ND, passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, while working at the job he loved.

Dale, the son of Ronald and Marjorie (McGurran) Bergum, was born October 28, 1965, in Grand Forks, ND. He was raised in Grand Forks, graduated from Central High School, and the University of North Dakota with a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. After graduating from UND, Dale worked for the ND Department of Transportation in Bismarck, ND, before joining Webster, Foster, and Weston Engineering in Grand Forks and getting his PE license. He spent his entire career with WFW, later becoming the primary owner of the company. He married his first love, Tracy, on May 29, 1992, and together they raised three amazing children.

Dale was loved for his many admirable qualities. First and foremost, he had the biggest heart and the best laugh! Whether you were family, a friend, a co-worker, or stranger, you could always count on Dale to fix the problem. Dale had a strong work ethic and was insistent that all aspects of the job be done according to the specs. Some might say he was a tad perfectionistic, but to Dale, there was no other way. His faith in God was visible in every aspect of his life. He had an abundance of patience, was approachable, a selfless protector, and simply put, a genuinely kind person.

Dale enjoyed summers at the lake, playing in the yard with the dogs, and buying every small kitchen appliance known to man because it was "on sale." He spent weekends working with his brother, Bill, either starting a project, finishing a project, or planning the next project. Dale could build anything from a birdhouse to a family home and everything in between. The Veteran's Memorial Park in Grand Forks was a project close to Dale's heart. He acted as project manager, donating time and resources to see the project come to completion. Being a big kid at heart, Dale loved Disney. He would spend months planning family vacations to Florida, meticulously organizing all the details in his Book of Fun. He truly treasured being Nick, Jaxon, and Aubre's dad.

Dale is survived by his wife, Tracy; his children, Nick, Jaxon, Aubre, and Lexi Goetz, a niece who was like a daughter; brothers, Ed (Molly) Bergum, Bill Bergum, Alan (Brenda) Bergum; sisters, Mary (Fidel) Hughes, Janet (Steve) Tybus; sister-in-law, Geralynn Bergum; brother-in-law, John (Katie) Goetz; mother and father-in-law, Gary and Darlene Goetz; many nieces, nephews, co-workers, and friends; and his beloved dogs, Autumn, Skyye, and Hazel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and Marjorie Bergum; a brother, Jim Bergum;a niece, Grace Bergum; and brother-in-law, Doug Goetz.

Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 16, 2023, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, East Grand Forks, MN.
Visitation: 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, October 15, 2023, with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service in the Historic Norman Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Monday.
