Dale J. West, 89, of Grand Forks, ND died on Monday, November 23, 2020 at his home.

Dale Joseph West was born on April 27, 1931 in Thompson, ND the son of Oscar and Eleanor West. Dale grew up and attended school in Thompson, graduating in 1949. He farmed with his dad until he entered the United States Army in 1954, serving in Chateauroux, France as a heavy equipment mechanic. Dale was honorably discharged in 1956. On June 28, 1956 he was united in marriage to Henrietta Myerchin at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in East Grand Forks, MN. They adopted 3 children. Dale attended the Wahpeton State College of Science, graduating in 1959 with two degrees, Machinist and Electrical Technology.

In July 1959, he began work with Nodak Rural Electric as a Utilization Advisor, becoming a licensed electrician in 1960. In January 1972 he became the Power Use Advisor until November 1975 when he was promoted to Member Service Manager, retiring from Nodak in 1992. In retirement, he worked several summers at the EGF Recreation Area in Building and Grounds. Dale served his community in several clubs including the Knights of Columbus, Elks Lodge, VFW, and American Legion. He served on the Board of Directors for the Greater Grand Forks Electrical Association for 11 years, was the Chairman of the GF Chamber of Commerce Agriculture Committee, Lions Club, North Dakota Member Service Association, North Dakota Power Use Council, and was nominated by the House of Representatives and appointed by the Governor in 1978 to serve on the Board of Directors for the North Dakota Historical Society. In 1988, Dale received the North Dakota State Achievement Award from the North Dakota Power Use Council for meritorious service to the electrical industry.

Dale enjoyed lake weekends and would always say, "Beautiful!" "Beautiful!" "Beautiful!" as the family drove through the Norway Beach entrance on Cass Lake. He was an avid reader of North Dakota history, fisherman, and enjoyed creating wood working projects in his shop. Dale enjoyed family picnics at Sherlock Park and playing pinochle, whist, and smear with family. He also enjoyed watching his children participate in activities, sports, and family vacations.

Dale is survived by his children Lori Pesch (Tim), Douglas and Darrin (Sarah); Grandchildren, Holly (Tyler) Messelt, David (Ashley), Brooke, and Jhett Pesch, greatgrandchildren, Ella, and Gage Messelt and Grayson Pesch, many nieces, nephews, countless friends, and other loved ones.

Dale was preceded in death by his wife on September 12, 2019, parents, son-in-law, Tim Pesch, granddaughter, Katie Ann West, beloved sister, Donna Schumacher, several brothers, and sisters-in-law.

Burial: Calvary South Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
Military Honors: Accorded by members of the American Legion post 157, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817 and the North Dakota Army National Guard.
