David Fontaine

David Jo Fontaine, 70, Grand Forks, ND, was called home to the Lord on September 20, 2025.

Prayer Service will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025, at 5:00 PM with Rosary beginning at 7:00 PM at Norman Funeral Home, 2950 S Washington St, Grand Forks, ND. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1018 18th Ave S, Grand Forks, ND.

David was born on February 17, 1955, in Grand Forks, ND, to Delmore and Irene Fontaine. He graduated from Grand Forks Central High School and spent most of his life in Grand Forks. David worked for the Grand Forks Parks and Recreation Department. His years there were some of his happiest, as the job gave him the chance to connect with his community and meet countless people who would become lifelong friends.

David moved to Bismarck 12 years ago, and even in a new city, he carried his same welcoming spirit. He faithfully visited his mother every day in her nursing home, later continuing his love of service by volunteering there himself. He loved sharing stories, offering a kind word, and making people feel seen.

David had a lifelong love of sports, especially baseball. He was an avid Minnesota Twins fan and took great joy in following Carson Wentz's football career, even when Wentz played for the Vikings. While living in Bismarck, David delighted in attending Bismarck Larks baseball games and cherished every trip to Medora with his sister Tammy.

In the past year, David lived at Missouri Slope Nursing Home, where he quickly became a beloved part of the community. He enjoyed the activities especially bingo, where he was known to be a frequent winner and he proudly served on the Resident Council. One of his proudest moments was convincing the group to organize an outing to a Larks game, giving many residents the chance to experience something he loved so deeply.

David's true gift was his ability to connect with others. Whether it was through a simple conversation, a smile, or a shared story, he had a way of making people feel valued. His family and friends will remember him for his humor, his big heart, and his unwavering love for those around him.

David is survived by his sisters Linda (Jerry) McDaris and Tammy (Duane) Miller; sister-in-law Liz Fontaine; nieces Kelly Fontaine, Kristi Reesing, Julie (Paul) Henderson, Heather Kovaleski, Kayla (Reed) Hanson, and Cassidy (Mason) Przybilla; nephew Nolan Miller; great-nephew Brett Fontaine, Lucas Henderson and Mason Henderson; great-nieces Emily (Nate) Prince, Ella Henderson, Macie Kovaleski, and Harper Kovaleski; and great-great-niece Gabby Fontaine.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Delmore and Irene Fontaine, and his brother, Dale Fontaine.

Memorial Liturgy: Saturday, October 4, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church in Grand Forks, ND.
Visitation: Friday October 3, 2025 beginning at 5:00PM until 7:00 PM in the Norman Funeral Home at Grand Forks, ND and one hour prior to service time in the church.
Prayer Service: Friday, October 3, 2025 at 7:00 PM in the Norman Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Forks, ND.
Interment: Calvary North Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND
