David C. Jelinek, 91, of Grand Forks, ND passed away Friday, September 2, 2022, at Bethany Retirement Living in Fargo, ND.

David Charles Jelinek was born on November 12, 1930, in Pisek, ND the son of Charles and Herminia (Machovsky) Jelinek.  He attended grade school in Pisek and graduated from St. James High School in Grand Forks.  David enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on October 23, 1951, at Minneapolis, MN and was stationed in California.  He was honorably discharged from military service with the rank of Sergeant on October 22, 1953, at San Diego, CA. David married Delores Helmowski on February 5, 1952, in California.  They made their home in Grand Forks raising their 6 children. He retired from a career as a bookkeeper with International Harvester in Grand Forks.

David was a long-time member of Holy Family Catholic Church.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, working in his yard and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his children, Daryl (Vicki) Jelinek, West Fargo, ND, Debra Johnson, Osceola, WI, Darwin Jelinek, Decatur, IL, Dawn (Donovan) Daws, Loveland, CO, Douglas (Maureen) Jelinek, Fargo, ND and Darla (Tyler) Jacobson, Valley City, ND; a brother, Sidney (Judy) Jelinek, Roseville, CA; grandchildren, Jennifer Jelinek, Jason (Angie) Jelinek, Travis (Padee) Johnson, Teah Johnson, Elijah Jelinek, Charly Daws, Weston Daws, Christopher (Amanda) Jelinek, Jack Jelinek, Quinn Jelinek, Drew (Haley) Jacobson, Aiden Jacobson and Parker Jacobson; great-grandchildren, Hailey, MiKayla and Harper Jelinek, Ian and Issac Johnson, Bryce and Gaborik Jelinek.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a sister, Gladys Vigen; brothers, Felix Jelinek and Terry Jelinek; sisters-in-law, Irene Jelinek, Eleanor Perkerwicz and Dorothy Slominski; brothers-in-law, Vernon Vigen, Julian Perkerwicz, Stanley Slominski and Theodore Helmowski.

Mass of Christian Burial: 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2022, in Holy Family Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.
Visitation: One hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Wednesday.
Burial: Calvary North Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND
Military Honors :  Accorded by members of the American Legion Post 157, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817 and the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard.
