David N. Knapp, 71, of Grand Forks, ND passed away peacefully Saturday, May 29, 2021.

David Newell Knapp was born on December 26, 1949, in Rock Springs, WY the son of Ronald and Margaret (McComas) Knapp.  David graduated from Grand Forks Central High School in 1967.  He went on to graduate from the University of North Dakota with a Bachelors degree in Physics in 1971 and a Masters degree in Physics in 1978.  He was a longtime member of the University of North Dakota Alumni Association and an avid Fighting Hawks Hockey fan.  David married Cabrini Wald in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grand Forks, ND on September 2, 1972.  David was a valued member and co-owner of M.T. Inc. from 1993 to 2021. Also, he was employed with Opp Construction in Grand Forks as a quality control director from 1985 until his retirement in January of 2016.

He was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grand Forks and a member of the church choir; a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a NeoLife Vitamin distributor for 50 years.  His hobbies included: organic gardening, traveling to Rome and Germany, camping with his grandchildren and playing the violin.  David was a skilled carpenter building the house that he and his family lived in for over 40 years.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Cabrini; his children, Gerald (Tami) Knapp, Laporte, MN, Paul Knapp, Lakota, ND, Laurie (Brian) Noyes, East Grand Forks, MN, Michael Knapp, Grand Forks, ND, Sherry (Lance) Flaig, Simpsonville, SC and Steven ( fiancé, Brittany Berger) Knapp, Park River, ND; grandchildren, Jayce Noyes, Kylie Noyes, Emberly Noyes, Cadence Flaig, Sasha Flaig, Lilliana Knapp and Jordon Hyden; step grandchildren, Jesse Otto  and Cassidy Semanko; step great-grandchildren, Blakeley Semanko and Kai Semanko; brothers, Bob (Judy) Knapp and Raymond (Ahuva) Knapp and a sister, Ruth (Bob) Teschner.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Knapp.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to be given to David's family.

Mass of Christian Burial: 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 5, 2021, in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.
Visitation: 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. with a 1:40 p.m. rosary service in St. Mary's Catholic Church on Saturday.
Burial: Calvary South Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
