DAVID JAY MANTHEI

David Jay Manthei, age 62 of Grand Forks, ND, died on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at his home.

David J. Manthei, as son of Milton and Anne (Kvasager) Manthei, was born on September 12, 1960 in Grand Forks, ND. He was raised and attended school in Grand Forks. After his education David attended the East Grand Forks AVTI. On July 20, 1982 he entered the US Navy and was honorably discharged on July 27, 1986. David returned to Grand Forks and began working. On June 18, 1988 he was married to Kathie Tapson at United Lutheran Church in Grand Forks. In 1991 he joined the Grand Forks Fire Department as a fire fighter. After several years he became a training officer. David retired in 2015. He has continued to spend his time enjoying retirement.

He enjoyed playing music, softball and camping at Devils Lake, ND. David loved to ride motorcycle, he and Kathie would attend the Sturgis motorcycle rally. David also enjoyed spending time with his granddaughters, Harper and Hannah.

David is survived by his wife Kathie Manthei at home; a son, Tyler (Sarina) Manthei of Northwood; a daughter, Megan Manthei of Grand Forks; 2 granddaughters, Harper and Hannah; his mother, Anne Manthei of Grand Forks; sisters, Sue (John) Nelson of St. Paul, MN and Diane Manthei of Grand Forks.

He is preceded in death by his father, Milton and a brother, Todd Manthei.

Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 4, 2023, in the Historic Norman Funeral Home Chapel.

Visitation: One hour prior to the service time in the funeral home on Friday.

Military Honors: Accorded by the American Legion Post 157, The Veteran's of Foreign Wars, and the United States Navy Honor Guard.

Interment: The Columbarium of Memorial Park North Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
