Dean L Brown, 90, of Grand Forks, ND passed away on Monday, March 4, 2024, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks.

Dean Lowell Brown was born on March 14, 1933, in Hadley, MN, the son of Boyd and Loraine (Protextor) Brown.  He was raised in Hadley until the family moved to Arthur, ND and then Park River, ND, where Dean graduated from Park River High School. Dean enlisted in the United States Navy on November 14, 1951, at Bismarck, ND and served as an Armament Mechanic during the Korean War.  He was honorably discharged from active military service on May 16, 1955, at San Francisco, CA.  Dean returned to Grand Forks and joined the Grand Forks Police Department in 1956. He went on to attend the Federal Bureau of Investigation Academy. Dean rose through the ranks to Police Captain before his retirement in 1996.  Dean was united in marriage to JoAnn M. Meyer on August 10, 1957, in St. Dorothy's Catholic Church in Dorothy, MN and the couple made their home in Grand Forks.

After retirement, he spent his time outdoors. He loved going for bike rides or spending time in his man cave. He was a quiet man but loved to spend time with his family.

Dean is survived by his wife, JoAnn; children, Barb Brown, Cheryl (Jay) Ekren; grandchildren, Kayla Ekren, Kelsey (Casey) Pagnac, and a great-grandchild, Ryker Dean Pagnac.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Donna Schlenk and Doris Sannes; brothers-in-law, Sonny Sannes and Harold Schlenk, and an infant sister.

Funeral Liturgy: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2024, in the Historic Norman Funeral Home Chapel.
Visitation: One hour prior to the liturgy in the funeral home on Tuesday.
Interment: In the spring of 2024, in the Garden of the Evangelists Columbarium in Calvary North Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
Police Honor Guard: Police Officers of the Grand Forks Police Department.
Military Honors: Accorded at the time of the interment, by members of the American Legion Post 157, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817, and the United States Navy Reserve.
