Donald M. Dinkel, 92, of Grand Forks, ND passed away Saturday, May 16, 2020 at his home with his beloved wife and "Mr. Cat" by his side. He was told when he discontinued dialysis that he had only two weeks to live. However, he lasted almost 60 days.

Donald Morris Dinkel was born April 14, 1928 near Hoople, ND the son of Frank and Helga (Sveen) Dinkel.   When he was two years old, he moved with his family to a farm near Crystal, ND. He was raised on the farm and attended school and was employed in Chrystal. Donald was raised during the Great Depression. Consequently, it was difficult for him to throw away anything since it was difficult to obtain replacement parts. During World War II, he was deferred from military service, since four of his brothers were in the service and his father was unable to work. During that time, he was responsible for operating the farm and keeping the equipment working.

Donald was drafted into the United States Army on August 10, 1954 at Fargo, ND and served in the infantry. He was honorably discharged from military service on July 31, 1956 at Fort Ord, California. He moved to Grafton, ND and later to Grand Forks. He owned and operated Don's Machine Service in Grand Forks for over 25 years. He loved what he did and it was hard for him to quit working. Donald married Mary Faith Charbonneau-Schenk on May 30, 1972.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Faith; stepsons, Edward (Deb) Schenk, Thompson, ND, Joel (Janet) Schenk, Keller, TX Rustin Schenk, Austin, TX; a sister-in-law, Carol (Mrs. David) Dinkel, Crystal, ND; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, David, Ralph, Gordon, Frank and Stanley; sisters, Delores Hunter, Joy Hartje and infant sisters, Betty and Mildred
