Dorothy "D" J. Helland, 78, of Grand Forks, ND passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at her home in Grand Forks.

Dorothy Jean Finesield was born on September 18, 1943, in Chicago, IL the daughter of Charles and Jean (Reimers) Finesield.  She was raised and educated in Chicago.  Dorothy married James C. Yahkne III and they moved to Grand Forks.  Dorothy was employed with Burger King and for many years as a bartender at the Bronze Boot.  Dorothy met Raymond Gehl and they were life partners for over 17 years.  Dorothy loved playing cards, especially Solitaire, jigsaw puzzles and working with handicapped people.

She is survived by her life partner, Ray Gehl; her sons, Robert Yahnke, James (Carla) Yahnke and Al Johnson; sisters, a sister Kathy; brothers, Sam and Leroy; 5 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Mary.

Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 26, 2022, in the Historic Norman Funeral Home Chapel.
