Dorothy Jeanette Kulas , 94, was called to her heavenly home on January 24, 2021, at Valley Senior Living in Grand Forks, ND.

Dorothy Schiller was born on June 16, 1926 on a farm in Forest River, ND to Walter and Clara (Kryzsko) Schiller. Growing up on the farm, Dorothy loved being outside, playing with her pet chicken and taking care of her pony.  Dorothy attended high school in Grafton, where she enjoyed playing tennis and working at Gambles Department Store. After graduating, she continued to work for them as a Bookkeeper.

On July 1, 1946, she married Ludwik "Louie" Kulas at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Warsaw, ND. They made their home in Grand Forks where Dorothy was a devoted mother of 5 children and homemaker. She was an excellent cook and known by many for her "Grandma Buns" and delicious chocolate chip cookies.

Sundays in the summer started off with early morning Mass followed by helping the boys with their paper routes and then heading to the lake for fun and fishing. These road trips always involved singing "You are my Sunshine" and praying the rosary.

Dorothy and Louie were avid Fighting Sioux fans, holding season tickets for over 40 years. When it wasn't hockey season, you could find her cheering on her Minnesota Twins. In all these sports, she knew the players by name and definitely had her favorites.

Dorothy loved her Catholic faith. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and was an active member of many committees, including their Altar Society. Dorothy had such a big heart and cared deeply about others. She was the first to have a meal for someone in need and made sure the boys were mowing & shoveling for the neighboring widows.

Her remaining years were spent at Valley Senior Living under the loving care of the wonderful staff, to whom we owe deep and heartfelt gratitude. She will always be remembered for her great sense of humor and kindness to others.

Dorothy is survived by her children, L. Joseph (Babs), Minneapolis, MN; Timothy, Shoreview, MN; Ronald (Mary), East Grand Forks, MN; Mary Kempf (Tom), Fargo, ND; and John, Grand Forks, ND; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, James (Lim), Springfield, VA; Dennis, Grand Forks, ND; and Roger (Norma) Escanaba, MI.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her granddaughter, Becky.

Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 28, 2021 in St. Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.
Visitation: 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. with a 10:00 a.m. rosary service in the church on Thursday.
Burial: In the spring at Calvary North Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
