Douglas Edward Almquist of Grand Forks, ND died August 17, 2021, at Devils Lake, ND doing what he loved best - fishing.

Doug was born in Sandstone, MN on February 2, 1959, to James and Barbara Almquist.  He graduated from Moose Lake High School in 1978. Though he moved many times in his life, he always called Moose Lake home.  He loved fishing, hanging out with his friends, watching the Minnesota Vikings, talking on the phone, driving, and working hard.  Doug had a special talent for figuring things out. He could tinker his way through a problem and find a solution.  He had a love of anything with an engine. Time spent in the outdoors gave him peace and joy.  If he found a lake or river, Doug would always drop a line.

Doug worked many jobs in his life, most involved driving large trucks. Driving trucks in the oil fields of North Dakota were some of the coldest and hardest days of his working career, and he enjoyed this challenge. When he worked as an over the road truck driver, he made many coast-to-coast runs and loved getting to see so many parts of the country from his cab.  He was also an excellent carpet and tile man, having learned this trade from his dad.

Doug is survived by daughters, Jodi (Bryant) Stahlbusch and Brittany Almquist; step-children, Jennifer Lubarsky, Chris Peterson, Kristine Nelson, and Heather Fletcher; siblings, Sandra (Ann Rubin), Kathleen (Peter) Macek, and Jeff (Barbara McCraven); many grandchildren and other special friends and outlaws.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley Fletcher, and son, Dustin Douglas Almquist.

Doug will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
