Douglas "Doug" Carivau, 92, of East Grand Forks, MN passed away very peacefully, with his loving family by his side, on the morning of Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at Villa St. Vincent in Crookston, MN.  He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Deota who he dearly missed.

Benedict Douglas Carivau was born December 4, 1928 in Grand Forks, ND the son of Peter and Sara (Olson) Carivau.  He grew up in East Grand Forks, MN.  Douglas went on to enlist in the United States Army on November 10, 1950 at Fargo. ND.  He received an Honorable Medical Discharge from military service on January 21, 1953 at Minneapolis, MN.  While he was a patient at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Denver, CO, he married the love of his life, Deota J. Ludders of Minneapolis, MN. They met at a bus station, where Deota worked, when Douglas was returning from boot camp to East Grand Forks.  Douglas and Deota were married on December 13, 1952 in Denver, CO.  Deota preceded him in death on May 13, 2006.

They made their home in East Grand Forks where they built their home and raised their four daughters.  Doug worked a few jobs including, Ireland's Lumber Yard, Castle Chemical and the University of North Dakota.  In his younger years, he would bartend (when needed) at the Eagles Club in East Grand Forks.   Following his retirement, he was employed with Ron's Electric of Grand Forks.  Doug and Deota loved playing Bingo together. They would play often and sometimes one or more their daughters would join them.  Doug continued to play Bingo up until a year ago.

Doug was an active and longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in East Grand Forks, a life member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, The American Legion Post 157 and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 2.   He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He was always good for his quick wit!  He loved playing cards and playing Bingo.

He is survived by his daughters, Alison (Mrs. Sidney) Duell, Grand Forks, ND, Robin (Greg) Bottem, Melinda (Roy) Fisher, all of Thief River Falls, MN and Stacie (Bruce) Wills, Palatka, FL; grandchildren, Cory (Jennifer) Carivau, Chelsey (Kyle) Vettleson, Cody (Elizabeth) Bottem, Chad (Dee) Carivau, , Kaleb (Chelsi) Fisher and Seth Fisher; great-grandchildren, Chelsey (Dustin) Cassens, Carrter Carivau, Alexandra Hoff, Olivia Vettleson, Graham Vettleson, Jace Erickson, Callan Bottem, Charlee Vancamp Alana, Adelynne Fisher, Karsen Fisher; great-great granddaughters, Delilah Cassens and Stella Cassens; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Terri Lynn; brothers, sisters and his beloved wife of 53 years, Deota.

Mass of Christian Burial: 12:00 noon Monday, February 22, 2021 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, East Grand Forks, MN.
Visitation: One hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Monday.
Burial: In the spring at Calvary North Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND
Military Honors: Accorded by members of the American Legion Post 157, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817, The Disabled American Veterans Chapter 2 and the North Dakota Army National Guard.
