Dwight Leroy Sears , 74 of Thompson N.D., gained his angel wings and went home to be with the Lord on September 4th, 2020. His passing was unexpected; he went peacefully in his sleep while at home in Thompson.

Dwight was born October 8th, 1945 in Westhope N.D. to William and Mary Conway. He was adopted at an early age by Francis and Edith Sears. He was raised on a farm in rural Petersburg N.D where he attended Unity High School. He left the farm and moved to Grand Forks working as an Orderly at the UND Rehabilitation Center. Dwight united into marriage with Patricia Griggs, daughter of Sophie Griggs, and the late Frank Griggs, on October 29th, 1966 at St.Judes Catholic Church in Thompson N.D. They resided in Thompson raising their three children David, Dianne and Denise.

Dwight worked for E.W. Wylie Transportation Services, for 29 ½ years, achieving 3.1 million safe miles before retiring on January 30th, 2019. Being an over the road truck driver for so long made retirement uneasy for Dwight as he always had to be doing something, recently joining Transystems of East Grand Forks.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, Madison and Joey; going for rides on the four wheeler, mowing and taking care of the yard, and visiting with neighbors.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years Patricia Sears, Thompson, N.D., son David Sears, Grand Forks, N.D., daughters, Dianne (Terry) Moser, Crookston, M.N., and Denise Sears (Robert Berthold) Reynolds, N.D., his two grandchildren, Madison Sears and Joseph Berthold, brothers Russel Conway, Valley City, ND, Marvin(Yolanda) Wetzel, Mandan, ND, sister-in-law Louise Billings, St. Ignatius M.T., and sister Dawn (Mike) Brewer, West Fargo, ND, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his (Adoptive Parents) Edith and Francis Sears, Uncles Lyman and Roy Sears, (Biological Parents) William and Mary Conway, (Brother) Wayne Billings and (Brother) Jim Jorgenson. Dwight will be dearly missed by his family and friends, he will continue to live in their hearts.

Memorial Liturgy: 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 14, 2020 in St. Jude's Catholic Church, Thompson, ND. Family and friends are welcome to gather before and/or after  the liturgy to celebrate his memory and share stories. The church is set up for social distancing, and masks are at your discretion.
Starting at approximately 2:00 p.m. Dwight will be making his last delivery with E.W. Wylie and laid to rest at St. Jude's Catholic Cemetery one mile south of Thompson, ND.
