Elizabeth Jane (Majkrzak) McGurran , 93, from Grand Forks, ND, died Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at Valley Senior Living. Elizabeth, also known to some as "Betty", was the youngest child of Stanley and Agnes Majkrzak's nine children. She was born and raised on the farm in Thompson, ND. She graduated from Thompson High School in May of 1950.  She attended and graduated from Aaker's Business College in Grand Forks, ND.
Elizabeth moved to New York and worked various jobs. In New York, she met and married her first husband, S. Putaski, and together they had a son Terry.
Elizabeth moved back to North Dakota to assist in the care of her mother.  Upon her death, Elizabeth worked at multiple places and lived in Grand Forks. She met Norman Kalvick, and they were married. A job opportunity for Elizabeth took her and Norm to Rapid City, SD, where they lived for numerous years. Upon her retirement, she and Norman moved back to Grand Forks. Norm passed away in February of 2013.
Elizabeth loved to garden, cook, and was a self-taught painter.  She had a very deep faith and attended St. Michael's Catholic Church, where she met Michael McGurran of Grand Forks, ND. They were married on August 11, 2017. Together they shared a deep love for each other and their Catholic faith. Michael passed away in November 2022
She moved into Wheatland Terrace assisted living and so enjoyed her studio apartment with the view of the Headstart playground. She talked about seeing so many different people she knew from the Grand Forks, Thompson, and Reynolds area. She especially liked going to mass with Lottie.
She is preceded in death by her parents and husbands. Sisters: Ann, Frances, and Mary. Brothers: John, Tony, Stanley, and Walter.
Elizabeth is survived by her sister Sophie (Toby) Newberry; she's 104 years old! Her son, Terry Putaski, and family. Many nieces and nephews, stepsons and stepdaughters, dear neighbors and friends.
We would like to extend our gratitude to the staff at Wheatland Terrace, Altru Hospital and Clinic, HIA Hospice, and Valley Senior Living – TCU Unit. The care that was given to her was exceptional. "Thank you" is not enough!  Elizabeth will be remembered for her kindness, gentle soul, independent spirit, and quick wit. We will truly miss the twinkle she would get in her eyes and her welcoming smile. Rest in Peace, Elizabeth (Betty)!

Memorial Mass : 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 28, 2026 in St. Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.
Visitation : One hour prior to the Memorial Mass in the church.
Interment : St. Jude's Catholic Cemetery, Thompson, ND.
