Eugene A. Dauksavage

Eugene A. Dauksavage, age 88, of West Oslo, North Dakota, passed away on October 20, 2023, at Valley Senior Living in Grand Forks.

Eugene was born June 11, 1935, to Alec and Rose (Knapkiewicz) Dauksavage. He grew up on the family farm in Pulaski Township and attended country school. He spent one year in California working at McDonnell Douglas Manufacturing and then returned home to farm. He joined the National Guard ​and completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. On September 29, 1960, he married the love of his life, Marlene Novak, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in East Grand Forks and they made their home on the farm near West Oslo. He continued to farm and tend to his cattle and also worked during the winter months for 51 years for Earl Mallinger. His most important and rewarding job was being a father to his ten children. He was a member and president of the local PNA chapter, an American Legion commander, a Eucharistic minister, enjoyed working Friday nights at the fish fry in Oslo, playing cards and cutting firewood. He and Marlene loved to host gatherings at their home for family and friends, take family trips and in retirement they went on several bus tours. Marlene passed away on March 22, 2006.

Eugene was content to be at his farm where he could admire God's beauty and watch the wildlife. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and could often be heard telling stories about them. He was happy to attend family birthday parties, grandchildren's sporting events, Steam Threshers Reunion in Rollag with his sons, fishing at Devil's Lake and the Fourth of July at Island Lake. In his later years, he was fortunate to have found a special friend, Millie Anderson, and they enjoyed dancing, going out to eat and lots of ice cream.

The family is grateful for the care Eugene received at Valley Senior Living and appreciates the staff who went above and beyond to make him comfortable. Also, thank you to Dr. Paul Chan for his care and kindness to Eugene.

Eugene is survived by six daughters, Carol (Kevin) Grove of Grand Forks, ND; Linda (John) Barr of Fargo, ND; Donna (Dean) Thompson of Fargo, ND; Cynthia (Harris) Olson of Fargo, ND; June (Dean) Kassa of East Grand Forks, MN; Stacy (Luke) Esboldt of Duluth, MN; four sons, Gary (Robyn) Dauksavage of Fargo, ND; Larry (Rachel) Dauksavage of East Grand Forks, MN; Brian (Kelly) Dauksavage of Minto, ND; and Steven (Corinne) Dauksavage of Bemidji, MN; grandchildren, Ryan (Katie) Grove; Alex (Erin) and Austin (Kayla) Barr; Derek Thompson, Ronnie (Logan) and Brandon Kassa; Colton, Megan, Mollie and Nathan Dauksavage; Adyson, Ava and Easton Dauksavage; Elijah, Lydia, Julia and Ezra Dauksavage; and Alexis and Hunter Esboldt; and great grandchildren, Gavin Grove; Peter Barr; and Navy, Vera and Palmer Kassa. He is also survived by brother-in-law, Donald Schumacher; sister-in-law, Carol (Joe) Kotrba and brother-in-law, Dick Novak. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marlene; brother, Ernest Dauksavage; sisters, Rose Schumacher and Leona Czapiewski; brother-in-law, Florian Czapiewski, sister-in-law, Marilyn Dauksavage; and sister-in-law, Martha Gerszewski.

Mass of the Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Friday October 27, 2023 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Warsaw, ND

Visitation: 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 26, 2023, and a 7:00 p.m. Vigil Service in the Historic Norman Funeral Home Chapel.  Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Friday.

Military Honors: Accorded by members of the American Legion Post 157, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817, and the North Dakota Army National Guard.

Burial: St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Warsaw, ND
