Eugene "Gene" L Schreiner , 87, of Reynolds, ND passed away on Friday, September 9, 2022, with his immediate family by his side at Altru Hospital.

Eugene L. Schreiner was born on December 3, 1934, in Mayville, ND the son of Albert and Veronica (Adam) Schreiner.  He attended school at Buxton Common #1 and then Michigan #86 through the 8 ^th grade.  He graduated from Reynolds High School and then began farming with his dad.

Gene played American Legion Baseball in Reynolds as well as softball at Holmes Ball Park.  He bowled for the Reynolds Farmers Elevator and then Phil & Lils.  Gene was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and the Reynolds Knights of Columbus, where he served as The Grand Knight twice.  He was president of the church council and was on the Reynolds Farmers Elevator Board.

Gene met his future wife, Shirley in 1971, when they became godparents to Jeff Schumacher.  The two were united in marriage on November 21, 1975, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.

Gene loved farming and going to the lake and sitting around the campfire.  As an avid sports enthusiast, Gene made sure to attend all his daughters' games as well as those of his nieces, nephews and grandkids.  He loved the Minnesota Twins and was able to attend his first game at Target Field with his godson, Isaac Schadewald, a memory which he held fondly.

Gene is survived by his wife, Shirley; his two daughters, Angie (James) Belbas and Katie (Dan) Hogfoss; grandchildren, Carson and Brooklyn Belbas and Garrett and Greta Hogfoss; a sister, Rosalie Schumacher and a brother, Lloyd (Jean) Schreiner; sisters-in-law, Mary Knutson and Judy (Dave) Jahnke; brothers in law, Ray (Judy) Leddige, Joe (Bernie) Leddige and John Leddige, and several nieces and nephews.  Also, special extended members of his family, Mark, Laura, Isaac Schadewald and Erin (Travis) Kirkpatrick.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Veronica; a daughter, Amy; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mildred and Verdeen Leddige; brothers-in-law, Lyle Schumacher, Ken Knutson, Bill Leddige; sisters-in-law, Mary Leddige and Melinda Leddige, and his grandparents.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 15, 2022, in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Reynolds, ND.
Visitation: 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, with a 4:30 p.m. rosary service and 7:00 p.m. vigil service in the Historic Norman Funeral Home Chapel.  Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Thursday.
Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Reynolds, ND.
