Francis "Frank" Brda, 74, of Warren, MN passed away Tuesday, January, 14, 2025 at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN.

Francis Michael Brda was born on June 6, 1950, in Grand Forks, ND, the son of Frank and Rozalie (Novacek) Brda. He was raised on the family farm, where he enjoyed playing with his toy tractors, trucks and combines. Frank also loved riding bicycles, catching pocket gophers, working around the farm and visiting with his family and friends. Frank also learned to play the accordion by ear from his father. He and his dad played at many church social events and for several barn dances around the township in his teen years before graduation from high school. Francis and his dad built a go-cart which the entire family was able to enjoy for several generations.

"The Red Go-Cart has been on the farm for what seems to me like forever. Every time we went to visit the farm the go-cart would be out of the shop, garage or barn and started again. We would lift up the back of the cart with a jack, painted the same color red as the cart, so the motor could run freely and not stall when started. Once started, the motor made the sound that only a 1 stroke motor could… putt, putt, putt, baap, putt, putt, then a ding sound, like a bell, every so often. All of the kids would share at first, but it wouldn't take long before we were chasing the one on the cart trying to get it back for our turn. No one ever wanted to get off. We would ride around the gravel driveways, the grainery, down the long driveway and, once in a while all the way around the grove of trees and back along the rear of the house. Sometimes, we would even ride around the pasture.  All of us kids would fight over who gets to use it next. Driving the red go-cart was one of my favorite memories on the Brda farm."

After graduation from high school in 1968, Frank enlisted in the United States Navy on December 11, 1968. He served in Vietnam, Guam, the Philippines, Japan, Alaska and Hawaii. Frank was honorably discharged from active military duty on January 26, 1973. He made his way back to Minnesota to start working for John Deere. After 4 years, he moved on to begin working as a farm hand for a couple of different neighbors. Later, getting the opportunity to get on with the Nutrition Lab at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. This gave him the opportunity to work on his career as a videographer, recording many happy occasions for many couples throughout the Red River Valley.

After retirement, Frank enjoyed spending many happy hours attending auction sales, mowing around the farm, and of course, time spent with his beloved cats, cats, and more cats.

He is survived by his sister, Helena Keller; a sister-in-law, Cathy Brda; 11 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Rozalie; a brother, David; a sister, Marie Schumacher; brothers-in-law, Charlie Schumacher and Duane Keller and a nephew, Shane Schumacher.

Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 30, 2025, in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Tabor, MN.
Visitation: 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 29, 2025, with a 6:30 p.m. recitation of the Rosary and 7:00 p.m. Vigil Service in the Historic Norman Funeral Home Chapel.  Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Thursday.
Burial: In the spring of 2025, at Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery, Tabor, MN.
Military Honors: Accorded by members of the American Legion Post 157, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817, The Disabled American Veterans Chapter 2, and the United States Navy Reserve Honor Guard.
