Francis C. Wald , 91, of Grand Forks, ND passed away Saturday, February 5, 2022, at the home of his daughter, in Winnabow, NC.

Francis Wald was born on April 15, 1930, near the St. Michael's Community in rural Logan County, ND the son of Conrad and Margorette (Schmidt) Wald. Francis married Irene Jangula on October 23, 1952, in St. Andrews's Catholic Church in Zeeland, ND. After marriage, they lived in Bismarck, ND until moving to Emerado, ND to work for Northern Improvement working on the new Grand Forks Air Force Base. After that time, Francis was employed as an equipment operator with the city of Grand Forks until he retired at the age of 64. Also, he was employed for 20 years as an upholsterer  and furniture repairman with Sears in Grand Forks. Following his retirement, he moved to his farmstead near Reynolds, ND. He enjoyed working in his garden, traveling, playing his accordion and the organ daily, and the beaches in the Carolinas. He moved to Winnabow, NC in 2021 to live with his daughter and her husband, Mary and Glen Pridgen and resided in Winnabow until his death. Irene preceded him in death on June 13, 2008.

He was a wonderful husband and loving father and grandfather. We all enjoyed Dad playing his accordion or organ and dancing on Sundays and eating his delicious rivel soup. Francis loved playing wedding marches for his family. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Reynolds, ND, Sacred Heart Catholic Church in North Carolina, St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grand Forks, ND and a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus, Fr. Higgins Council, # 6340. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him and knew him. "He received his wings today".

He is survived by his children, Cabrini Knapp, Grand Forks, ND, Ronald (Robyn) Wald, East Grand Forks, MN, Debbie (Jeff) Ellingson, Kerrville, TX, Dwayne (Catherina) Wald, NC, Kerry (Franklin) Wald, Houston, TX, John (Mark) Wald, Houston, TX and Marykay (Glenn) Pridgen, Winnabow, NC; sisters, Christine (Mrs. Henry) Dosch, Bismarck, ND and Margaret (Arlan) Vonesh, Buxton, ND; brothers-in-law, James Schmidt and Alex Feist;  sisters-in-law, Lillian Wald and Millie Wald; 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 56 years Irene; a son Timothy A. Wald; siblings Elizabeth Ell, Conrad Wald, Markus Wald, Phyllis Wald, Sylvester Wald, Adam Wald, Helen Schmidt, Dorothy Wald, Julia Feist; infant brother Joseph and a son-law, David Knapp.

Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 21, 2022, in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Reynolds, ND.
Visitation: 3:00p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday with a 4:30 p.m. rosary service and 5:00 p.m. vigil service in the Historic Norman Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Monday.
Burial: In the spring, at Calvary Cemetery, Reynolds, ND.
