Genevieve Ann Brant, 95, of Grand Forks, passed away peacefully amongst family and friends on November 22, 2025, at Valley Senior Living. Genevieve was born in Belcourt, ND, on April 11, 1930, to Ida & Peter DeLorme.

Gen was one of the first women from Belcourt trained as a nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital in Minot, ND, in 1952. In 1956, Gen married Richard E. Short in Traverse County, Michigan, where she worked as a nurse and he was a medical doctor. They later moved to Farmington, New Mexico, where Richard P. Short was born. Upon a divorce in the fall of 1957, Gen and her son moved back to Minot, ND, with her parents. She worked as a nurse and cared for her son. Her mom decided that she needed a social life and convinced her to go out dancing. That was where she met Frank, an Airman at Minot Air Force Base. On October 16, 1961, Gen was united in marriage to Frank Lee Brant in Minot, ND. They later made their home in Grand Forks, ND, where Janice was born in 1969. They enjoyed 54 years of a loving marriage.

Genevieve loved to crochet, knit, garden, and play cards. Sugar and chocolate were her favorite food groups, and she never left the house without painted nails and her "face" on. At home, she often wore tracksuits, embracing athleisure before it was ever fashionable. She loved to visit and had a natural gift for making friends wherever she went.

We are deeply grateful for the care she received at Valley Senior Living, where her final years were filled with friends and daily activities. She sometimes needed a little encouragement from staff to join in, but she always ended up enjoying herself. Even in her later years, she continued to offer plenty of medical advice, often unsolicited, as if she had never retired from her beloved vocation.

Those who shared in her life include her son Richard (Juanita) Short of East Grand Forks, Janice (Marvin) Hulst of Grand Forks, and her grandchildren, Kerri (Casey) Whipple of Kindred, Jennifer (Clifton Jr.) Whitman of Carrington, Laura (Anthony Seth) Gregg of Boise, ID, Joseph (Lisa) Gladue Panama City, FL, and Stephanie Gladue (Anthony Brosius) of Buxton, and 15 great grandchildren: Tarley (Mariama) & daughter Ariel Goah, Bryce, Gabe & Cael Whipple, Savannah, Maximus, Amari & Jayci Whitman, Cash & Barrett Gregg, Tyr Hammargren, Ember & Joey Gladue, Nikole & Jacob Gladue. She has two surviving sisters, Marion Lily Houle of Belcourt, ND, & Theresa Mabin, Bismarck, ND, and one brother, Cyprian (Barbara) DeLorme of Stillwater, MN.

Gen is greeted in heaven by her husband, Frank Brant, infant son Frank Lee, stepson Elmer Lee Brant, brothers Peter Clifford DeLorme & Eugene DeLorme, and sisters Evangeline Braun & infant Doris May DeLorme, and her parents, Peter & Ida DeLorme.

Funeral Liturgy: Saturday, November 29, 2025 at 12:00 pm in the Norman Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Forks, ND

Visitation: one hour prior to service time in the funeral home.

Burial: Monday, December 1, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Calvary North Cemetery Grand Forks, ND
