Hilda D. Wilhelmi, 102, of Grand Forks, ND left this world peacefully on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, in her Oakcrest neighborhood at Woodside Village, where she has been loved and cared for since March 2021.

Hilda Delores Chaput was born October 17, 1919, to Medric and Laura (Marcelin) Chaput on their family farm south of Langdon, ND. She was raised there with her 9 siblings and attended rural school - sometimes with only her siblings as classmates. She married the love of her life, Herbert "Herbie" Wilhelmi on April 29, 1941, in St. Edwards Catholic Church in Nekoma, ND. Together, they raised three children, Rodney, Dale and Sheila. Family was everything to them and they shared a loving life together.

Shortly after they were married, Herbie was drafted into the United States Army and served in World War II. Hilda followed him to stateside bases until he went overseas. During their 3 years apart, she worked in the Willow Run Aircraft Factory in Michigan. In 1945, they returned to the Langdon area and farmed until they moved to Grand Forks, ND in 1965. She and Herbie worked alongside each other as custodians at St. Michael's School and church until his retirement in 1986. She remained a faithful member of St. Mike's for 56 years. Hilda was devoted to her love of God and her Catholic faith throughout her life.

Hilda loved to crochet and knit and made many beautiful afghans for grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed a good game of whist and pinochle and never failed to feel guilty when she won (which was often). She loved a good visit over a cup of coffee, and always made time for others.

Hilda deeply loved her family and stayed very close to her siblings, cousins and her many nieces and nephews. She was a beautiful wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. She loved her caregivers at Oakcrest and her previous caregivers at Tufte Manor. We will forever be appreciative of their love for her.

Hilda is survived by her children, Rod (Karen) Wilhelmi of Erskine, MN. Dale (Sharon) Wilhelmi of Thompson, ND and Sheila (Terry) Dachtler of Grand Forks, ND. She will be missed by her 11 grandchildren, Jennifer (Chris) Dorsey, Heidi Smith (John Hawes), Brent (Emily) Wilhelmi, Craig (Nicole) Wilhelmi, Kristina (Wayne) Lembke, Katie Cariveau (Jay Stephens), Erika (Aaron) Kowalski, Terrah (Ben) Sutton, Dylan (Katie) Dachtler, Logan (Cassandra) Dachtler, Caleb Dachtler (Samantha Carr). She was loved by her 25 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by two loving brothers, Medric Chaput Jr. of Fredrick, MD and Wilbert Chaput of Langdon, ND.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Herbie; her parents and siblings, Eva (Mrs.Jake) Moos, Leona (Mrs. Myles) Johnson, Annette (Mrs. Harvey) Prince, Marie (Mrs. Harry) Everson, Sylveo (Charolotte) Chaput, George (Anna) Chaput, Tom (Margie) Chaput as well as sisters-in-law, Ruth (Mrs. Willie) Chaput, and Blanche (Mrs. Medric Jr.) Chaput, precious nieces and nephews, and her special cousin, Anita (Mrs. Michael) Albo. She will be missed by the many that she has touched in her 102 years on this earth.

Mass of Christian Burial :  11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 13, 2021, in St. Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.
Visitation :  10:00 to11:00 a.m. with a 9:30 a.m. rosary service in the church on Saturday.
Burial: Calvary North Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
