Ian D. Gust, 50, of Grand Forks, ND passed away at home of natural causes on December 1, 2019.

Ian, the son of Dan and Margret (Zamick) Gust was born in Grand Forks on October 10, 1969. The young family grew while living in Winnipeg, Manitoba and for a short while in London, England. After Margret died unexpectedly in 1974, the family settled on "The Farm" in rural East Grand Forks, MN.

When Dan remarried in 1979, the Gusts and the Stones joined forces, and 3103 Cherry Street, Grand Forks, ND would never be the same. Ian and his newly formed band of brothers spent summers at "The Farm" working hard and horseplaying even harder. In the winter, goofing off while playing hockey at "The Rink" is where he could be found. Ian excelled academically at Sacred Heart Catholic School, Kelly Elementary, Schroeder Jr. High, and Red River High School, where he graduated with honors in 1987. Ian attended UND, earning numerous degrees (just because he could), never getting less than an A. There he found another band of brothers as an active member of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity, where he was loved, well-respected, and often the life of the party.

One of Ian's proudest moments was when he became a father July 4, 1995 to Harrison Michael Gust. Ian always supported Harrison's love of animals, including allowing him own snakes when no one else would.

Ian recently spent several years working and living in Fargo, along with his girlfriend, Jeana Stegman. She appreciated his unconditional love and positive spirit. Ian was a father-figure to her son, Preston, and was responsible for introducing him to the sport of hockey, becoming his biggest supporter.

Ian was also the life of the party when it came to the kids in the family. They were his happy place. He was referred to as the "favorite toy" by nieces and nephews and "Old Beardy" by young cousins. Ian recently bought knee pads to play with his youngest nephew, since he needed to be low to the ground and maneuver quickly just to keep up!

Ian was preceded in death by his mother, Margret and four sets of grandparents.

He is survived by his son, Harrison, his father, Dan and step-mother Lois, step-brother Chad (and Liz) Stone, step-brother Brad (and Cindy) Stone, sister Megan (and Russ) Uribe, brother Matt, and step-sister Cindy
