Irene E. Zon, 97, of Grand Forks, ND passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at Valley Senior Living on Columbia in Grand Forks.

Irene Elizabeth Lizakowski was born on December 15, 1924, the daughter of Martin and Caroline (Gerszewski) Lizakowski in the township of Walshville, ND.  She was raised and attended school in Walsh County, ND.  Upon the completion of her education, she moved to Grand Forks and was employed with Minnesota Dairy.  Irene married Edward J. Zon on November 28, 1945, in St Michael's Catholic Church in Grand Forks.  Edward and Irene continued to reside in Grand Forks working and raising their children.

She was a longtime and active member of St. Michael's Catholic Church.  She enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, fishing near Bemidji, MN and camping in the area.  Edward preceded her in death on August 9, 1999.

She is survived by her children, Janie Zon, Grand Forks, ND, Judy (Dave) Simmers, Peoria, AZ, and Cindy (Randy) Russell, Grand Forks, ND; her sister, Rose (Richard) Saylor, Westminster, CO; a brother, James Lizakowski, Minto, ND; 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward; a daughter, Marilynn Guarnieri; a son, Eddie Zon; a granddaughter, Heidi Schmidt; a grandson, James Janousec; a great-granddaughter, Tiannah Hayden; a sister, Jean Valinski and a brother, Henry Lizakowski.

Mass of Christian Burial: 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 2022, in St. Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.
Visitation: One hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Saturday.
Burial: In the spring, at Calvary North Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
