Jacob "Jack" Bachmeier , 96, of Grand Forks, ND passed away Monday, August 23, 2021, in Villa St. Vincent in Crookston, MN.

Jacob George Bachmeier was born on February 24, 1925, in Esmond, ND the son of Dan and Theresa (Sander) Bachmeier.  He was raised in Esmond and graduated from Esmond High School.  He went on to graduate from Devils Lake Business College in Devils Lake, ND.  Jacob entered the United States Army on October 26, 1944, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota and served as a combat infantryman.  During World War II, he participated in the liberation of the Philippines and served with the Occupation Forces in Japan.  He was honorably discharged from active military duty, with the rank of Technical Sergeant, on April 6, 1945, at Fort Lewis, Washington.

From 1948 to 1952, he owned and operated the Nite Hawk Club in Roosevelt, MN and from 1952 to 1970 the Nite Hawk Motel in Waukesha, WI.  Later, he was employed as a repair man with the Grand Forks Housing Authority, until his retirement in 1980.

Jack was devoted to the Catholic faith and was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grand Forks.  He made over 10,000 rosaries, which he distributed to seminaries, convents and to residents of St. Anne's Guest Home. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. For many years, he served on the Veterans Service Organization Honor Guard.  He enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing and watching Wheel of Fortune.

He is survived by his sons, Marcus (Connie) Bachmeier, Nathan Bachmeier, Gary Bachmeier, Larry (Calmeta) Bachmeier and Quin Bachmeier; a daughter, Karen Bachmeier; a brothers, Marvin Bachmeier and Joseph Bachmeier; sisters, Helen Zarr, Philomena Aylsworth and Julia Aschberuger; 5 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, John, Albert, Walter and Leonard; sisters, Catherine Bachmeier, Mary Pfau, Ann Larson and Irene Buckner.

Funeral Liturgy: 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 27, 2021, in the Historic Norman Funeral Home Chapel.
Visitation: One hour prior to the liturgy in the funeral home on Friday.
Burial: Calvary South Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
Military Honors: Accorded by members of the American Legion Post 157, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817 and the North Dakota Army National Guard.
