Jim Fristad, 68, of Grand Forks, ND and formerly of Mandan, ND died on Saturday, September 28, 2024, in his home surrounded by family.

James Carl Fristad was born in Bismarck, ND on October 16, 1955, to Helen (Minette) and Gus Fristad. He grew up in Mandan, ND the second of four children. On July 11, 1979, Jim married Sue Bair of Mandan. They recently celebrated their 45th anniversary.  Jim was a loving father to his daughters, Liz and Kathryn, and he treasured his six grandchildren.

Jim graduated from the University of North Dakota in mechanical engineering. He started his career with SSR Engineers in Minot, ND. In 1994, Jim joined Lunseth Plumbing and Heating in Grand Forks. He was instrumental in the design and building of numerous facilities in North Dakota and around the world. Jim served as a member of the North Dakota State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, and the North Dakota State Plumbing Board.

Jim loved the outdoors and was an avid runner, hunter and skier.  He completed many races, from 5Ks to full marathons.  Jim enjoyed traveling, a pastime which started as a child and continued throughout his life.   What he loved the most was doing projects at the Fristad family farm Northwest of Mandan. He planted acres of pine trees, fruit trees and bushes.

Jim is survived by his wife, Sue; a daughter, Elizabeth (Luke) Kapella, Mandan, ND and their children, Audrey, Grace, and Sylvie; a daughter, Kathryn (Mitch) Mueller, Paynesville, MN, and their children Walt, Jane, and Ann; brothers, Bill (Deb) Fristad of Hudson, WI, and Tom (Lorraine Doll) Fristad, of Mandan, ND, and a sister, Mary (Joe Fiala) Fristad, of Worthington, Ohio, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 5, 2024, in Holy Family Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.
Visitation: 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 4, 2024, with a 7:00 p.m. Vigil Service in the Historic Norman Funeral Home Chapel.  Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Saturday.
Burial: 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 7, 2024, in Mandan Union Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
