James "Jim" Stupnik ,74, of Grafton, ND passed away Friday, December 19, 2025, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.

James Edward Stupnik was born on December 27, 1950, in Ely, MN, the son of Frank and Rose (Brula) Stupnik.  He was raised in Ely and graduated from Ely High School. Following his graduation, he was employed as a meat manager with I.G.A. Foods in Ely, MN and Rainbow Foods in Minneapolis, MN. He went on to be employed in the engine room of the S/S Philip R. Clarke bulk freighter on Lake Superior in Minnesota. He then moved to Grand Forks, ND and was employed as a meat manager with Leever's Foods. Later, he moved to Grafton, ND and was employed as a meat manager with Wally's Grocery and Hugo's Supermarket.

James married Peggy Kappel on February 13, 2006, in Hillsboro, ND and they continued to reside in Grafton. He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, listening to music, and spending time with his family and friends. James also had a special place in his heart for animals, as he played an impactful role in the Doberman Rescue Society of Minnesota. He will be missed and cherished by many

He is survived by his beloved wife, Peggy; his sons, Jordan Phillips, Anaconda, MT and Ray (Dana) Phillips, Grafton, ND; a brother, Frank (Cindy) Stupnik, Rice, MN; grandchildren, Eathon, Zachary, Joshua, and Madyson; nephews, Matthew, and Todd and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, John.
