Jim L. Schaefer , 83, Reynolds, ND passed away Thursday, October 22, 2020 in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND surrounded by his loved ones.

James Lowell Schaefer was born February 6, 1937 the son of Victor and Christine (Stranger) Schaefer at the family homestead North West of Reynolds in the same home where he lived and farmed his entire life. He grew up farming and attended school in Reynolds. On October 8, 1960, Jim wed Ann Frances Duray in Grand Forks. From that union they had four sons, Christopher, Daniel, Thomas and Joel. Ann preceded him in death on August 10, 1989.

Jim wed Roberta S. Lian on February 9, 1996 and their family grew by Roberta's three sons, Gregory, Christopher and Patrick.

Faith, family and farming was Jim's life. Between times, he spent hours woodworking, gardening, hunting, snowmobiling and motorcycling. Spending time at the lake with family was always special. Jim was a good farmer, a good neighbor and a good friend to those who knew him. He will forever be missed.

Jim is survived by his wife, Roberta; sons, Christopher (Patty) Schaefer, Devils Lake, ND, Daniel (Sherrie) Schaefer, Grand Forks, ND, Thomas (Kari) Schaefer, Thief River Falls, MN and Joel (Kathy) Schaefer, Glyndon, MN; stepsons, Gregory (Stacey) Lian, Fargo, ND, Christopher (Brandee) Lian, Duluth, MN and Patrick (Jocelyn) Lian, Apple Valley, MN; 18 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann; sisters, Margaret Bohlman and Shirley Schaefer.

Due to COVID concerns, a Private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 26, 2020 in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Reynolds, ND. A live stream will be available at https://olphsj.org/ at 10:00am.
Burial : All are welcome on Monday, October 26, 11:00 am to attend the burial at Calvary Cemetery, Reynolds, ND. Please note, face coverings are required and social distancing will be observed.
