JAMES "JIM" SEBASTIAN BURCKHARD

James "Jim" Burckhard, 91, of Grand Forks, went to be with the Lord, on January 4, 2022, at Benedictine Living Community in Crookston, MN.

James was born September 13, 1930, in Grand Forks, to Michael and Frances (Schmitt) Burckhard.  He graduated from St. James High School.  He joined the United States Air Force in 1951 and served for 4 years during the Korean conflict, discharging in 1955.  He married Marlene Gladue on November 10, 1956 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Walhalla, ND.  He worked at Coca Cola in Grand Forks for 37 years, as the service manager for many years until his retirement.  Then he drove cars for Enterprise Rent A Car in Grand Forks.  He was a charter member of Holy Family Catholic Church.  He enjoyed crossword puzzles, and reading and spending time with his wife, helping her at home when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, then visiting her every day when she was in Valley Senior Living.  He also enjoyed time spent with his children and grandchildren.

James was preceded in death by his wife Marlene, his parents, brothers Jake, Wendt, Mike and Ed and sister Betty Murphy.

James is survived by sons Robert "Bob" (Audra) Grand Forks; Mark, Phoenix, AZ, and Patrick, Grand Forks; daughter Lori (Richard) Hubbard, Lavon, TX; grandchildren Eric (Brandie) Burckhard; Andrew "Andy" Burckhard; Alec (Myah) Burckhard; Michayla Burckhard; Jessica (Josh) Westra; Stephanie Burckhard; and James Hubbard; 3 great-grandchildren; sister Toots Jackson, sister-in-law Ramona Danielson, and many nieces and nephews.

The family of James wishes to extend our sincere thanks to all the staff at Benedictine Living Community in Crookston, and also the 6 ^th floor staff at Altru Hospital.

In James' memory, donations can be made to Holy Family Catholic Church in Grand Forks.

James' loving devotion to his wife was an inspiration to us all.

Memorial Mass: Monday, January 10, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Grand Forks, ND
Visitation: One hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Monday.
Burial: in the spring of 2022
Military Honors: Accorded at the time of burial by members of the American Legion Post 157, The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817 and the Grand Forks Air Force Base Honor Guard.
