Janet S. Covington, age 81 of Grand Forks, ND, died on Friday, December 12, 2025 at Valley Senior Living on Columbia in Grand Forks, ND.

Janet Sue Covington was born March 7, 1944 in Highland Park, MI the daughter of Charles and Mildred Shand.

She grew up in Feasterville, PA where she was involved in dance and tap. She enjoyed cooking and baking for others.

Janet would later move to Detroit, Michigan where She would marry Bobby R. Covington on June 29,1964. They would go on to have four children together Ronald, Tanganyika, Vanessa, and Bobby Jr.

Janet and Bobby moved to Grand Forks, ND in 1994 with their grandson James. They both would dedicate their time to their church, Gospel Outreach Ministries.

Janet was able to attend the wedding of James and his wife Amy in Jamaica in 2011. She loved trying to make her grandchildren, Aliviana and Everly laugh with her playful gestures.

She is proceeded in death by her husband Bobby, son Ronald, two grandchildren Sheila and Alonda, father, mother, sister Jean, and brothers Charlie and Robert

She leaves behind her daughters Vanessa (Greggson) Thedford, Tanganyika Covington, and Bobby (Mishonna) Covington Jr., thirteen grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren, and numerous friends at Gospel Outreach.

Memorial services: Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at 1:00 pm in the Norman Funeral Home in Grand Forks, ND
Visitation: one hour before service time in the funeral home.
Burial: in the spring of 2026.
