Jerome "Jerry" Bergman, 88, of Grand Forks, ND, passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at the Good Samaritan Center in Larimore, ND.

Jerome Harry Bergman was born on March 23, 1937, in Wales, ND, the son of Joseph and Bertha (Koehmstedt) Bergman. He was raised in Wales and graduated from Wales High School in 1955. Shortly after graduation, Jerry enlisted in the United States Army, where he served honorably until his discharge in 1957. In 1968, he joined the North Dakota Army National Guard, proudly serving for 14 years.

Jerry met the love of his life, Grace Schneider, soon after high school, and the two were united in marriage on June 15, 1959, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Wales. They made their first home in East Grand Forks, MN, before settling in Grand Forks, where they worked and raised their four children—Dale, Doris, Douglas, and Daryl.

For 26 years, Jerry was a dedicated letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1992.  Following his retirement, he owned and operated Tom and Jerry's Dugout.

A man of strong faith, Jerry was a longtime member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Grand Forks. He was also active in the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Eagles Club of East Grand Forks, and the Knights of Columbus Council 1260 and for several years served on the Veterans Service Honor Guard.

Jerry enjoyed the simple pleasures in life—sharing a cold Pabst Blue Ribbon, attending UND sporting events, and working on cars. His greatest joy, however, was time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the light of his life.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Grace; his children, Dale (Charlene) Bergman, of Grand Forks, Doris "Dee" (Paul) Otto of Grand Forks, Doug Bergman of Grand Forks, and Daryl Bergman of Gilbert, AZ; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Leone "Pug" Kram, of Langdon, ND, and Patty Kessler of Williston, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Bertha, siblings, Jean Kram, Mark Bergman, Harold Bergman, Tom Bergman, and great-grandson, Benjamin Basting; brothers-in-law, Leo Kram, Tony Kram, and Ed Kessler; sisters-in-law, Audry Bergman, Donna Bergman, and Bonnie Bergman.

Mass of Christian Burial: 2:00pm Thursday, November 6, 2025, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.
Visitation: Wednesday, November 5, 2025, from 5:00-7:00pm with a 7:00 pm recitation of the Rosary and a Vigil Service to follow in the Historic Norman Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Thursday.
Knights of Columbus Honor Guard: Accorded by the Knights of Bishop Provencher Assembly 1578.
Burial: Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Calvary North Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
Military Honors: Accorded by the American Legion Post 157, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817, the Disabled American Veterans, and the North Dakota Army National Guard.
