Joan Elizabeth Kieffer , 86, Grand Forks, ND passed away surrounded by family, on Thursday, March 10, 2022.

Joan ­E. Ditton was born the daughter of Robert "Emmett" and Elizabeth (Dietz) Ditton on August 21, 1935, in Grand Forks, ND. After the passing of  Joan's father, Emmett, Elizabeth married Ernie Boucher. He was a blessing and she was fortunate to be able to call him "Dad".

Joan met the love of her life, Roger Kieffer, in the 4 ^th grade, at St Michaels Catholic School and they graduated, together, from St James Academy in 1953. She and Roger continued their lives together and were married in 1956, at St Mary's Catholic Church. Together they raised 6 children.

Joan and Roger owned and operated Dakota Sales, Co. of Grand Forks for nearly 30 years. Although Joan did not hold a formal title there, she always let everyone know "who the real boss was"!

Joan and Roger spent many memorable winter vacations in Maui Hawaii. Their summers were spent, with family, at their lake home in Bemidji Minnesota. Joan was a great supporter of her grandchildren's activities. She enjoyed gardening, attending Fighting Sioux Sporting Events and socializing with her wonderful friends. Roger preceded her in death on April 11, 2015,

Joan is survived by son, Randy (Kimberly), Rick (Kelly), Mark (Jodi), all of Grand Forks, ND; daughters, Elizabeth (Jeff) Jauch, Middleton, WI, Sheri (Karl) Peterson, Brooklyn Park, MN, Kristi (Kevin) Robson, Grand Forks, ND; 17 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren (with 2 more arriving to celebrate Joan's birthday in August); a brother, William (Virginia) Ditton, Deerfield, IL; sisters-in-law, Sharon (Gary) Swigart and Judi Pedas both of Knoxville, TN, Joan (Bob) Lockhart, Napa, CA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger; 2 infant sons; her parents, a sister, Madeline Lukkason and brother-in-law, Ted Pedas.

Mass of Christian Burial: 1:00 pm, Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.

Visitation: 12 to 1:00 pm with a 12:30 pm rosary prior to the liturgy in the church on Tuesday.

Burial: Calvary North Catholic Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND in the spring.
