John "Butch" Butler , 75, of Grand Forks, ND passed away peacefully after a long illness on Sunday, January 24, 2021.

John Michael Butler was born June 7, 1945 in Grand Forks, ND the son of John and Barbara (Kuntz) Butler.  He was raised in Grand Forks and graduated from St. James Catholic High School in 1963.  John married Eileen Sampson on October 6, 1964 in Grand Forks.  John entered the United States Army on July 16, 1968 at Kansas City, MO and served as a Distribution and Payroll Clerk.  He was honorably discharged from military service on July 15, 1970 at Fort Knox, KY.  He returned to Grand Forks and was employed at many jobs including Hyde Construction.  In 2007, he retired from Target Stores as Lead Maintenance Person.  John married Marjane Berg in May of 1990.

During high school, Butch was a Golden Glove Boxer.  He loved reading the Tid Bits.  Butch and Marjane had a love for dogs.  Their dogs, Angie, Meeko, Angel and Mickey were very special to them.  He enjoyed going to Bob's Oil and having a cup of coffee and visiting with his friends.  While working at target, you always knew where he was because he was always whistling.  He had a great love for all his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his sons, John (Tanya) Butler; stepsons, Jeffrey (Kim) Bakke and Bradley (Diane) Bakke, all of Grand Forks, ND; his daughters, Tammy Irvine, Grand Forks, ND, Lisa (Steven) Johnson, Thompson, ND, Krissy (Casey) Rude and a stepdaughter, Cindy (Darin) Gador, both of Grand Forks, ND; brothers, Richard (Linda) Butler, Grand Forks, ND, Steve (Bonnie) Butler, Mesa, AZ and Daniel Butler, Osage Beach. MO; 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marjane; a stepson, Scott Bakke and sisters, Mary Ann Cothren and Susan Dryer.

Memorial Liturgy: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 30, 2021 in the Historic Norman Funeral Home Chapel.
Family Greeting :  One hour prior to the liturgy in the funeral home on Saturday.
Interment: Memorial Park South, Grand Forks, ND.
Military Honors: Members of the American Legion Post 157, The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817 and the North Dakota Army National Guard.
