John "Jack" Stoltman, age 86 of Grand Forks, ND, passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at Valley Senior Living due to complications from COVID-19.

John David Stoltman was born on April 13, 1934 in Walsh County, North Dakota, the son of Henry and Matilda (Paschke) Stoltman. He grew up and worked on a farm near Minto, ND.  He completed his high school education at Sacred Heart High School in East Grand Forks, MN; upon graduation, John served in the Army.  After completing his service, he returned to work on the family farm, and eventually moved to Alvarado, MN to start his own farm.  John married Florence Thompson in 1959, and together they raised 5 children.

John had a lifelong passion for farming, fishing, card playing (pinochle & gin rummy), cracking puns; later in life, he greatly enjoyed his time with his grandchildren.

Over the years, John was active with the Argyle (Marshall County) Group Home, local churches, American Legion Club, Eagles, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Knights of Columbus, and was the Chaplain for the American Legion Post 157 Honor Guard.  John was well known for his distinctive voice heard during a church reading, performing his chaplain duties, or while being an auctioneer.  John was also very active with volunteer work for Altru hospital and with Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Left to celebrate his life are his sister, Mary Jane (Wilbert) Eismann of Menlo Park, CA; his children, and grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother, Joseph Stoltman, and a sister, LaVerne  (Earl) Burkholder.

Due to the current COVID-19 situation, a Private Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Grand Forks, ND.
John will be laid to rest in Calvary North Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
Military Honors:  Accorded by members of the American Legion post 157, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817 and the North Dakota Army National Guard.
