John "Jack" L. Miller , 97, of Grand Forks, ND, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2020 at Valley Senior Living on Columbia in Grand Forks.

John Lawrence Miller was born on September 22, 1922, in Forest River, ND, the son of Albert and Mary (Jarombek) Miller. John "Jack" grew up on the family farm. Jack did not graduate from high school, instead helping with the farm work. However, Jack was very proud of earning his GED through a mail order school course a few years later. Jack continued working on the farm and eventually moved to Grand Forks to work at American Crystal Sugar. In the late 1950's Jack began his career with Lystad's. He worked for Lystad's until retiring in the late 1980's

Jack remained a bachelor his entire life and lived with and assisted his parents throughout their lives. He would often be included in his brother's or sister's plans, whether going on vacations or spending holidays or simply spending the day together. His many nieces and nephews enjoyed spending time with Uncle Jack.

Jack's faith was very important to him. This was something that was clearly instilled in him in his youth, as all his siblings were equally devoted to their faith. Jack was a member of St Michael's Church, where he spent many years serving as an usher. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Jack always had a smile and never seemed to have a "bad day". If he did, he certainly wouldn't bother you by telling you about it. For him, if asked how he was doing, it was always, "oh, pretty good, I guess". He loved driving the countryside and would often venture out to check the fields and see the sights.

Jack knew when it became time to give up driving and move into a community with a little more assistance and so he chose to reside at Tufte Manor, where he enjoyed teasing the staff and checking on the front desk daily. In January of 2019, Jack moved to Valley Senior Living on Columbia, where the staff welcomed him and took fabulous care of him.

He is survived by his sister, Dorothy (Ray) Bohlman, Grand Forks, his sister-in-law Loretta (Mrs. Joseph) Miller, East Grand Forks, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his half-sisters, Gertrude Slominski, Mary Malone, Florence Zumwalt, half-brother Dan Meshefski, sister Frances Kobe, brothers Sylvester Miller and Joseph Miller.

Funeral Liturgy : 10:30 am Tuesday, June 9, 2020 in the Historic Norman Funeral Chapel, 2950 S. Washington St., Grand Forks, ND.
Visitation: One hour prior to the liturgy in the funeral home on Tuesday.
Burial: Calvary Cemetery North, Grand Forks, ND.
