John "Jack" Buchner , 88, of Grand Forks, ND passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2025, in Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.

John Peter Buchner was born on March 1, 1937, in Marshall County, Minnesota, the son of John and Helen (Zaucha) Buchner.  He was raised in Marshall County and graduated from Warren High School in Warren, MN.     Jack enlisted in the United States Air Force on March 1, 1956, and served with the 3554th A&E Maintenance Squadron.  He was honorably discharged from active military service with the rank of A/2C on February 29, 1960.  He returned to Warren and later moved to Grand Forks.  Jack was employed with Northern Plumbing Supply for 42 years, until his retirement.

Jack met his future wife, Margaret "Marge" Kasprowicz at a dance in Strandquist, MN.  Jack and Marge were united in marriage on September 5, 1964, at Assumption Catholic Church in Florian, MN.   Jack and Marge continued to reside in Grand Forks, working and raising their children.

Jack was a longtime member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817 and a 50-year member of the American Legion Post 299.  For many years, he served with the Veterans Funeral Honor Guard.  He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, deer hunting season, spending time at Lake Sarah in Minnesota, and sitting outside his pole barn at home enjoying music and visiting with family and friends.  Occasionally, he liked having a noon beer with his many friends at the VFW in East Grand Forks, MN.  He grew his own grapes, making and vinting his own wine that he loved to share with family and friends.  Most of all, Jack loved being with his family.  He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his beloved wife, of 61 years, Marge; his sons, Gregory Buchner, Cottage Grove, MN and Bradley (Kara) Buchner, Grand Forks, ND; a daughter, Jodi (Jason) Morgan, Grand Forks, ND;  brothers, John Rakowski, Grand Forks, ND, and Richard Rakowski, Greeley, CO; a sister, Barbara Kuznia, Stephen, MN; a sister-in-law, Doris Rakowski, Colorado Springs, CO;  grandchildren, Chelsee (Andy) Stone and Dr. Wyatt (Bailey Nelson) Telken; great-grandchildren, Summit Stone and Sage Stone.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Robert Rakowski, a sister, Patricia Folkestad, sisters-in-law, Lucille Rakowski, Barb Rakowski, brothers-in-law, Lawrence Kuznia and Ron Folkestad, and son-in-law Tony Telken.

Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 1, 2025, in St. Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.
Visitation: One hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Saturday.
Interment : 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 4, 2025, in Calvary South Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
Military Honors : Accorded by members of the American Legion Post 299, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817, and the Grand Forks Air Force Base Honor Guard.
