Jonathan Keith Murphy, age 19 of Grand Forks, ND, ended his life on the night of August 5 ^th , 2021. He was encouraged to seek help for depression, but it was too much for him and he made the final decision to end his pain. Jonathan was loved by many who came in and out of his life. Jonathan was born on April 30, 2002 in Long Beach, California to Delvona Murphy and Charles Glenn III. He lived in California, Washington, Pennsylvania, North Dakota, and possibly more states across the country. Jonathan received his High School Diploma from Penn Foster in 2020. He completed some classes at Purdue University Global and was on the Chancellor's List for the July 2020 Term.  Jonathan's friends and family speak of him as having courage. He didn't try to follow the status quo, he wasn't afraid to compliment complete strangers just to brighten their day, and he always made sure to take care of the people who mattered to him. Lastly, despite living against all odds he still rose to life's challenges and tried to find his place in the world. Jonathan was my best friend. A relative spoke of Jonathan as the best brother/cousin I could ever ask for. We literally talked about everything. Would've been nice we gotten the chance to go to Philly's Pride Parade liked we planned. Jonathan had a smile that would go on for miles and a sense of style beyond many others. Jonathan had hopes of one day being a foster parent and social worker. He wanted to work with kids. He worked for a period of time with kids at a local daycare. He had so much energy when it came to caring for the kids. Jonathan had plans to travel around the country and the globe. He had hopes to visit friends in Canada, Mexico, and the Philippians. Now, in some way, he may be getting that chance.  His aunt had this to say, Jonathan was a beautiful soul. He kept me guessing with his quirkiness and offbeat humor. I wanted Jonathan to be more than my nephew, I wanted him to be the son I lost so many years ago. At any given moment, out of the blue most of the time, Jonathan would say some very encouraging things when I seemed to be having a bad day. My sweet and beautiful nephew was searching for his place and his family. He struggled with a lot of things. He brought change to lives at some point. Before all was said and done, he left his mark, tried to mend broken fences. My only regret is not being with him in his very critical time of need. Rest, my sweet nephew. It's over now. No more hurting from your past or present. I love you and you will not be forgotten.

Services: a celebration of life will be held on Friday, August 20, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gregory J. Norman Funeral Chapel in Grand Forks.
