Kenneth J. Towers , 81, of Grand Forks, ND, passed away on November 6, 2020 at his home in Grand Forks.

Kenneth John Towers was born on December 26, 1938 in Alsen, ND the son of Earl and Pearl (Weiner) Towers.  Kenneth graduated from Alsen High School in 1958.  He went on to graduate from Mayville State Teachers College with a Bachelor's Degree in Education.  He taught and coached in Bowbells, ND, Langdon, ND and Red River High School in Grand Forks, ND. In 1962, he obtained a Master of Education and Administration Degree from the University of North Dakota.  He married Gloria Dick on June 3, 1960 at a double wedding ceremony in Salem Church in Munich, ND and they lived in Grand Forks. Together, they raised 3 children, Kim (Mike) Hackenberg, Gail (Gregg) Burnham and Brad (Gina) Towers.  Following his retirement in 1979 from teaching at Red River High School, he pursued his restaurant business with his business partners, Dave Rubin and Brad Towers.  He volunteered his time for many organizations and community groups, and dare I say, professional gardener until he retired in 2012.

Ken was passionate about affecting the most positive change in people. Ken was an amazing force in his community during his time with us. Spending his time with countless volunteer and community organizations. Kenneth was honored with being Henry Havig Recipient, Honorary Grand Forks Air Force Base Commander, inducted into The North Dakota Coaches Hall of Fame, and was also a part of the inaugural class of the Red River Hall of Fame. Ken has received many amazing awards through the years.

I can tell you as one of his special grandchildren, he is the proudest of his family members. He would always go above and beyond and he did it for his family and community to make us all better. I will leave you with a quote from his eldest grandchild, "May I be that kind of friend, that kind of grandparent, that kind of human that makes people feel seen and appreciated." -Mandy Merritt

He is survived by Gloria and children; 13 grandchildren, Mandy (Chris) Merritt, Megan (Eric) Hackenberg, Adam Hackenberg, Allison Hackenberg, Mikaela (Ben) Burnham-Meeks, Noah Burnham, Matthew Burnham, Ethan Burnham, Michael Towers, Brandon(Jael) Towers, Seth Towers, Madison Towers, Kelsey Towers and 3 great-grandchildren, Sloane Merritt, Hannah Merritt, and Jo Etta Towers; sisters, Violet Eickenbrock and Doris Ryan; brother, Daryl (Judy) Towers; many nieces, nephews; great nieces and great nephews and "adopted grandchildren".

Ken and Gloria prayed everyday for their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Florine Rohn, Beulah Stokke  and Beverly Towers; brothers, Delwyn Towers and Edwin Towers.
