Larry D. Duncan Sr. , 71, of Grand Forks, ND, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 26, 2026, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks.

Larry Douglas Duncan was born on May 30, 1954, in Portland, TN, the son of Bettie Jean Hendricks.  Larry graduated from Hillwood High School in 1972 and immediately enlisted in the United States Air Force.  He served as both a Fuel Specialist and Security Specialist and was recognized for his exceptional marksmanship. He was honorably discharged from active military service on October 19, 1977, at the Grand Forks Air Force Base in Grand Forks, ND.

After his military career, Larry moved on to a career with the Burlington Northern Sante Fe (BNSF) Railway where he worked for almost 24 years. He maintained a position as a "Hostler" or also known as a "Railyard Engineer". He retired in 2001.

Larry was very active in his community as a Sponsor for Alcoholics Anonymous, where he spent many years supporting members in his community.  Larry especially loved fishing, boating, relaxing at the lake and spending time with his family. He enjoyed watching movies, riding his Harley, and being outdoors. Larry had an infectious laugh and a great sense of humor. He worked hard and enjoyed "the fruits of his labor".

Larry is survived by his loving children, Larry Jr., Austin, and Kayla Duncan; grandchildren, Cameron, Keiyanna and Johnathon; sisters, Reba and Paula Hendricks.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Bettie Hendricks, his fiancée, Leonor Madrid, and a grandchild, Mason James Duncan.

Memorial Service: 1:00 p.m. Tuesday May 26, 2026 in the Norman Funeral Home Chapel.
Family Greeting : One hour prior to the service in the funeral home on Tuesday.
Interment: Fargo National Cemetery, Harwood, ND.
