Larry J. Stauss, 83, of East Grand Forks, MN passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026, at his home in East Grand Forks.

Larry's life was devoted to his family. His children, Judd and Gina; their spouses, Kelsey and Patton; and his grandchildren, Landry, Brock, McCoy, and Kutter, were the epicenter of his world.

A lifelong resident of East Grand Forks, Larry was enormously proud to be a Greenwave and maintained 11 years of perfect attendance during his school years. He later attended the University of North Dakota, where he received his bachelor's degree in industrial arts. His early experiences helped shape the work ethic that defined his life.

Larry married Virginia Bryl in 1968, and together they raised two children, Judd Stauss and Gina Stauss Fast. They provided a loving home filled with opportunity, a strong foundation, and an "all dreams are possible" mentality.

From humble beginnings, Larry was driven to become a self-employed business owner, successfully building and operating numerous businesses in the greater East Grand Forks area for more than 50 years.

Larry was devoted to making sure his children had every opportunity to pursue their passions, from sports at a young age, to their college education, and into their careers. He carried that same dedication into the lives of his grandchildren, supporting and cheering them on in their pursuits, especially synchronized figure skating and hockey. He was never shy about sharing how proud he was, and he made sure everyone around him knew it.

Larry had a big personality. He was extremely passionate, loved to tease, and could talk and talk some more. He also had a large collection of model trains, a passion for photography, and was a big-time shopper.

Larry was well known throughout the community for his unwavering passion for hockey. He could often be found at the rink, sharing his knowledge of the game, and he was also a devoted fan of Denver University hockey. He was instrumental in starting East Grand Forks high school hockey, first as a kid by getting petitions signed to make it happen.  He was also pivotal in the building of the VFW Arena in East Grand Forks, and coached for many years with the VFW Bantam hockey team, including a Minnesota State runner-up finish in 1972. Larry sharpened thousands of pairs of hockey skates over the years, though we never let him anywhere near the figure skates, and he frequently filmed both hockey games and figure skating events. In sport and in life, he believed in hard work and winning.

Larry's faith was a steady presence throughout his life and brought him strength and comfort.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Ethel Stauss, and his brothers, Lynn and Tony Stauss.

Larry is survived by his son, Judd Stauss, and daughter-in-law, Kelsey; his daughter, Gina Stauss Fast, and son-in-law, Patton; his beloved granddaughter, Landry; and his beloved grandsons, Brock, McCoy, and Kutter. He is also survived by his former spouse, Virginia Stauss; his siblings, Dale (Cheryl) Stauss, Danny Stauss, LaRae Stauss, and Paula (Jim) Mandel; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
