LaVerne R. Rygg , 84, of Grand Forks, ND passed away Thursday, January 8, 2026, at her home in Grand Forks.

LaVerne Rose Maszk was born September 4, 1941, in Grand Forks, ND the daughter of Florian and Helen (Mager) Maszk. She was raised in Grand Forks and graduated from St. James High School. There are not enough words to express what a strong, amazing women LaVerne (Mom) was. She worked hard her entire life, but her main focus was creating a safe and loving home for her family, always putting them above all else, including herself. LaVerne married Charles Rygg on May 5, 1960, at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Grand Forks and together they raised five children.

Though she technically only had five children, countless others lovingly referred to her as mom. She found immense joy in being surrounded by her family, whether holidays or just filling the house for a family dinner, everyone showed up for her meatballs and chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting. Her love and strength was transferred to all, leaving a legacy of warm and cherished memories.

She is survived by her children, Kevin Rygg, Keith (Patty Rynestad) Rygg, Ken Rygg, Karmen (Mark) Tornow and Kraig (Julie) Rygg; her siblings, Alan (Joanne) Maszk, Darlene Gonzalez and Renae (Mitch) Engelstad; many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, her parents Florian and Helen (Mager) Maszk, brothers, Marvin and Alvin Maszk and a sister, Sharon Brunden.

Funeral Service: 11:30 a.m. Saturday, January 17, 2026, in the Historic Norman Funeral Home Chapel.
Visitation: One hour prior to the service in the funeral home on Saturday.
Burial: Following the service, burial will take place in Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
A luncheon: Will follow the burial in the community room of the funeral home.
