Lucille Lillian Ringling Gaddie became an angel on December 28, 2022, at Hearthstone/Woodside Village at Valley4000 Senior Living in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Lucy was born on March 25, 1927 in Warroad, Minnesota, the 7th child of William Henry and Hulda Magdelena (Lena) (Bauernfeind) Ringling. Lucy's family lived in town during the winter and on "the island" during the summer to be closer to the lake since her dad mended fishing nets. As a young girl, Lucy would tag along with her dad when he checked his nets. In his later years, Lucy's dad wrote to her in a letter to "not worry" about him because he was an "old "tuff" fisherman". Lucy inherited her dad's "tuff" genes making her the strong woman she grew up to be. Lucy left Warroad at the age of 17. She and her girlfriend hitchhiked out east to Virginia Beach, Virginia, where her friend's boyfriend was stationed. In 1945, Lucy and her girlfriend moved from Virginia to North Dakota and rented an apartment above Woolworth's Cafe in downtown Grand Forks. Lucy got a job waitressing at Whitey's Cafe, located across the DeMers Bridge in downtown East Grand Forks, Minnesota. Lucy had many colorful stories to tell about her time working there.

After returning from four years of active duty in Europe during WWII, Robert Gaddie worked for McCann Taxi in East Grand Forks. On January 20, 1946, while working at Whitey's, Lucy met the young taxi driver, Robert. They were engaged on March 25, 1946 on Lucy's 19th birthday. On August 1, 1946, Robert Francis Gaddie and Lucille Lillian Ringling were married at 8:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in East Grand Forks. Their 57 years of marriage were full. Robert and Lucy raised their four children in East Grand Forks. Through the years, they owned Rocket Taxi, Commercial Water Hauling, Bob's Liquor, and Grand Auto Parts. In 1984, they moved to Lucy's hometown of Warroad, Minnesota. Robert and Lucy bought a home on Warroad Estates. Robert worked at Marvin Windows until his death in 2003. His co-workers were often treated to Lucy's famous brownies. Living on a golf course, Lucy and Robert were avid golfers. They enjoyed winter travels to Hawaii, California and Nevada. In their later years, they settled in Destin, Florida, for several months during the winter.

Lucy had many hobbies. She golfed and bowled on ladies leagues. She liked making what she called "sceramics". Lucy was an impeccable seamstress and had a knack for needlework and crocheting. For years, Lucy kept a daily journal with notes on the weather and happenings. She filled many journals, making many entries up until a few years ago.

Lucy moved back to East Grand Forks, Minnesota, in 2006. She made Hearthstone/Woodside Village her home in August of 2016. During the years that followed, when asked how old she was, she would smile and say her age in reverse. Then with a twinkle in her eye, she would say, "just turn it around." Lisa, one of Lucy's caregivers, said she was "very grateful to have had 5 awesome years of Lucy's life. Many laughs and heart filled talks. Thank you for sharing your beautiful, loving, caring, comical mother with me.  I feel so blessed to have been able to call her my friend. I Love my LuLu." The family will be forever grateful to all of the staff at Hearthstone/Woodside Village for their love, care and compassion.

Lucy will be remembered as a wife, mother, "favorite momma-in-law", grandma, sister, sister-in-law, auntie and friend to many. We will hold memories of Lucy as a genuinely strong, independent woman with her own sense of humor.

Lucy is survived by her sons: Tim (Becky), Denny, and Larry (Deb). Son-in-law: Barry Linstad. Grandchildren: Ashlynn (Dale) Linstad Wagner; Ryan (Kris) Gaddie, Ian (Dinah) Gaddie, and Amber (Chris) Gaddie Hunt; Brent, Corey, and Claire Gaddie. Great-grandchildren: Jordan, Jaelynn, and Adie Wagner; Alexandra (Dusty) Gross; Ellis, Silas, and Lael Gaddie; Lilly (Lillian), Bailey and Elise Hunt; Zachary and Emily Gaddie; Kaylee Gaddie; David Gaddie. Brother: Albert.

Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; daughter, Patricia (Patti) Lynn Linstad; daughter-in-law, Cyndi (Denny) Gaddie; grandson, Jesse James Linstad; infant great-grandson, Benjamin Gaddie (Claire).  Parents: William and Lena Ringling. Brothers and sisters: Hugh, William, Edward, Evelyn, Clayton, Vance, Charles, Donny, and Irene.

A Celebration of Lucy's Life: 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturday in the Historic Norman Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment: Resurrection Cemetery, East Grand Forks, MN.
