Lynn Raymond Stauss, 77, of Grand Forks, ND and formerly of East Grand Forks, MN passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Sunday September 11, 2022.

The third of 7 children, Lynn was born May 29, 1945, the son of Albert and Ethel (Anderson) Stauss.  He grew up in East Grand Forks and graduated from East Grand Forks Central High School in 1963.  He attended University of North Dakota and graduated with a teaching degree.  After graduating from college, he was immediately drafted into the United States Army on January 28, 1969, at Crookston, MN. In January 1970, he was deployed to Vietnam where he served as a Medical Corpsman and drove ambulance that picked up wounded soldiers from helicopters and transported them to the hospital or grave. He was awarded a Bronze Star for meritorious service in a combat zone. He was honorably discharged from active military service with the rank of Sergeant on April 27, 1971, at St. Louis, MO.

After he returned from Vietnam, he started his teaching career.  He retired from teaching in 2000.  He had a love for politics and ran for alderman of the first ward and then for Mayor.  His term as Mayor of East Grand Forks, lasted 21 years, until his health made him decide not to run for re-election.  He was also in business in real estate development with Hampton Corporation for 50 years, with his brother Dan Stauss.

During his life, he coached youth hockey for many years, was President of the Blue Line Club and was Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars for multiple terms.  Lynn was very patriotic and believed in volunteering for your community.  He headed up many events such as big 4 ^th of July parades, fireworks displays, building of the VFW Arena, the Centennial Celebration and many other events for the City of East Grand Forks.

Lynn married Marjorie Roberts in 1967 and they have 3 children, Scott, Kelly, and Jill.  He has 7 grandchildren, Evan, Alex, Nolan, Parker, Brady, Teigen and Rhees, who made him very happy and always made him smile even on his most difficult days.

Surviving him are his wife, Marjorie; children, Scott (wife, Jenny), Kelly (husband, Eric), Jill (husband, Darin); grandchildren; brothers, Dan Stauss, Dale (Cheryl) Stauss, Larry Stauss; sisters, LaRae Stauss and Paula (Jim) Mandel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Ethel Stauss; a brother, Tony Stauss and a granddaughter, Sydney Meulebroeck.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 16, 2022, in Hope Church, 1601 17th Ave S, Grand Forks, ND 58201.
Visitation: 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the Church on Friday.
Burial: Resurrection Cemetery, East Grand Forks, MN.
Police Honor Guard: Officers of the East Grand Forks, MN Police Department.
Military Honors: Accorded by members of the American Legion Post 157, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817 and the North Dakota Army National Guard.
