Margaret "Marge" Knaus, 94, of Grand Forks, ND passed away Thursday, October 20, 2022, at Lilac Homes in Moorhead, MN.

Margaret Sophia Slominski was born on March 1, 1928, in Walsh County Township in North Dakota. Margaret was united in marriage to Ervin W. Knaus on October 19, 1948, in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Warsaw, ND. They made their home in Grand Forks and raised their 8 children. Ervin preceded her in death on October 18, 2014.

Marge was a talented cook and baker, and she made sure nobody ever left her house hungry. Family and holiday events were always centered around a large meal which often included her homemade meatballs, liver pate, vegetable medley, seven-layer bars, caramel rolls, and a family favorite, "mountain cake." While raising her children, Marge often worked outside the home as a waitress for the Bronze Boot and banquet waitress for the Westward Ho. She is most remembered as being a talented wedding cake decorator. After making a cake for her and Ervin's 25 ^th wedding anniversary, others recognized her talents, which led to her establishing a successful cake decorating business that she ran for over 35 years from her home. To this day, people still comment on how much they remember and loved Margie's cakes.

Marge was active and involved with many events and organizations, such as Girl Scout Leadership, Sewing Club, and St. Michael's Alter Society. Some of her favorite hobbies included square dancing, line dancing, reading, and crocheting. As a gifted gardener, she prided herself on always having a big garden and beautiful flowers around her house, such as peonies, hydrangeas, tulips, lilies of the valley, and ferns. As someone who enjoyed traveling, some of her most memorable trips included visiting Hawaii, Paris, and the Vatican in Rome.

The birth of a grandchild was always recognized as a special event, and Marge is remembered by her daughters for staying with them and helping in any way she could, especially during the first few weeks after a grandchild arrived. As a grandmother, she made sure every grandchild received a special gift, such as a hand-crocheted blanket.

She is survived by her children: William (Pat) Knaus; Darrell (Lee) Knaus; Colleen Knaus; Carmen (late Gregory) Paulson; Carla (Bryan Hest) Dahley; Chloe (Ken) Hill, Caryn (Dietrich) Locke; and Charys (Kevin) Kunkel; 19 grandchildren:  Jerimiah, Jessica, Andy, Darek, Sara, Miranda, Patrick, Joseph, Erick, Ethan, Shelby, Nick, Jen, Brittani, Tanner, Sam, Rachel, Emily, and Travis; 10 Great Grandchildren: Elijah, Canon, Kaleia, Miles, Sayuri, Gracie, Cameron, June, Lucy, and Zoey; brother, Dennis (Linda) Slominski, Minto, ND;  and sisters, Helen Effhauser, East Grand Forks, MN, and Theresa Gerszewski, Grand Forks, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ervin; granddaughter, Amy Kunkel brothers, Louie Slominski, Stanley Slominski, Walter Slominski, and Steve Slominski; sisters, BeBe Ann Bolek and Arelia Osowski.

Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 27, 2022, in St. Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.
Visitation: 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday with 4:30 p.m. rosary service and 5:00 p. m. vigil service in the Historic Norman Funeral Home. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Thursday.
Burial: 1:30 p.m. in St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery, Warsaw, ND.
