Margaret Ann Kvernen, 74, of East Grand Forks, MN, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026, at the Villa St. Vincent in Crookston, MN.

Margaret Ann Kiefel was born on August 10, 1951, in Grand Forks, ND the daughter of Christian and Lois (Von Rueden) Kiefel.   Margaret was raised in Grand Forks and graduated from St. James High School. She went on to graduate from Aaker's Business College in Grand Forks.  Margaret grew up in a close-knit family and was a woman of deep faith, often associated with Sacred Heart Catholic Church in East Grand Forks and St. Michael's Catholic Church in Grand Forks.

Margaret married Robert Ackerland on August 25, 1972, in St. Michael's Catholic Church.  She was employed with the Grand Forks County Correctional Center and Altru Health System. Margaret married Darrell Kvernen on June 29, 1990, in Grand Forks and they resided in East Grand Forks.  Darrell preceded her in death on September 26, 2021.  She enjoyed traveling, watching movies and country music.  Margaret will be remembered for her kindness, her devotion to her family, and her gentle spirit.

Margaret is survived by her sons, Tom (Kim) Ackerland, East Grand Forks, MN and Paul Ackerland, Thief River Falls, MN; her stepson, Shawn (Kristie) Kvernen, San Antonio, TX; her step-grandchildren, Jacob and Joshua; her siblings, David (Shirley) Kiefel and Raymond (Vicki) Kiefel of Grand Forks, ND and Karen (Keith) Skoglund of East Grand Forks, MN; as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell, her parents, and her brother, James "Jim" Kiefel and her son, Chad Ackerland.

Margaret's family wish to express their deep appreciation and thanks to the nursing staff and nursing assistants, at the Villa St. Vincent and to all of the staff at HIA Hospice for the exceptional and extraordinary care given to Margaret.

Funeral Liturgy: 1:30 p.m. Thursday, February 19, 2026, in the Norman Funeral Home Chapel.
Visitation: One hour prior to the liturgy in the funeral home on Thursday.
Burial: In the spring of 2026, at Calvary North Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
